Conor McGregor came to the UFC as Cage Warriors’ double champion, and the Irishman wrecked the UFC’s featherweight division on his arrival. To top that, he added UFC lightweight gold to his cap, and then he robbed the bank with the Floyd Mayweather boxing bout. That said, ‘The Notorious’ is not having the same success as before.

UFC President Dana White has always treated Conor McGregor differently than the rest of the fighters in the UFC. Even the UFC boss has no problems accepting that. Recently, White, who always has praised Conor McGregor for his mindset, gave his honest opinion about the Irish superstar’s future.
On the IMPAULSIVE podcast episode, White said, “I don’t know man, it’s just… It’s how much desire does he have to keep doing this. And what kind of a level can he maintain with the lifestyle that he has now. You know what I mean?”
“He’s got s**tloads of money. You know this isn’t a business where you make s**tloads of money and stay on top; Unless you’re a very special individual, mentally and in every other way.”

Thus, it appears that White is doubtful of McGregor having the same success as before. Nevertheless, ‘The Notorious’ is expecting to return somewhere around July; The UFC President has shown interest in booking the trilogy bout with Nate Diaz upon his return.
Can Conor McGregor return to the top?
The former UFC double champion has not been active inside the octagon like he was during his early UFC run.
From July 19, 2014, to November 12, 2016, McGregor stepped inside the octagon 8 times. He won 7 of those bouts in three different weight categories (Featherweight, Lightweight, and Welterweight) and captured three UFC championships (Interim Featherweight, Undisputed Featherweight, Undisputed Lightweight) in two separate divisions.

However, since then, ‘The Notorious’ has competed in five bouts (including the boxing bout) and has lost four of them. In addition, all of them were stoppage losses.
Looking at the brighter side, his losses have come against the best of the best fighters. Thus, a successful McGregor return can’t be ruled out, especially against the right opponent.
