Dana White shared his insights about Kron Gracie’s philosophy. Recently, he appeared in an interview with Robbie Fox on his podcast, ‘My Mom’s Basement’. Although the two were immersed in quite a few topics, one of the topics tackled the return of Kron Gracie back into the Ultimate Fighting Championship. He was set to fight against Charles Jourdain at UFC 288. However, Gracie also proposed to remove the rounds in the MMA fights. Coming from a family of martial artists, Kron Gracie‘s words carried much more weight.

White, previously oblivious to Gracie’s demands, was asked for his feedback on them. Without a doubt, the UFC president declared that it won’t happen. Undeniably, it would be extremely tough to convince the athletic commissions for having a single 15 or 25 minutes long round. Nevertheless, the clash of ideas didn’t sway the UFC boss from accepting how much he appreciated Gracie

Gracie recently disclosed some of his views about the MMA universe. Surprisingly, he proposed MMA fights to have a single round, as per MMA Fighting. He said, “It should be a 15-minute fight, or a 25-minute fight. I think that would change the sport for the better. You would have more chances to fight and win with these rules.” Furthermore, he backed his argument by saying that it’s no longer a one-on-one match if the fighters can go to their respective corners and refuel.

This suggestion was brought back to light in the recent episode of ‘My Mom’s Basement’. The host of the podcast asked White for feedback on Gracie’s suggestions. Surprisingly, White was unaware of them all and Fox had to fill him in.

Finally, White declared that it won’t be happening anytime soon. He said, “You know, the Gracie philosophy. But, yeah, I don’t see that happening again. I mean, even Pride, back in the Pride days, wasn’t the first round like 10 minutes? I think it was. First round was a 10 minute round. So, yeah, I think it’s pretty good the way we got it right now and it’ll be tough to go back and make all these athletic commissions sign off for that one.”

The Gracie family is indeed one of the most distinguished families in the world of martial artsHelio Gracie, who is considered to be the Godfather of BJJ, started the trend of martial arts in the family. He was succeeded by Royce Gracie, who began fighting in the UFC and won UFC 1, UFC 2, and UFC 4. Royce Gracie‘s older brother, Rickson Gracie, honed his skills in BJJ and came to be known as the greatest jiu-jitsu practitioner. Moreover, the founder of the UFC was also a Gracie.

Rorion Gracie, brother of Royce Gracie, came up with the idea for UFC while struggling to build Gracie jiu-jitsu. He previously talked about the time when he created the UFC. He said, “We had two hours to air the event in pay-per-view, and we had fights with no time limit or weight divisions, just two guys going in there to brawl and finish the opponent to win.”

Finally, the torch has been handed down to Rickson Gracie‘s son, Kron Gracie. With a bloodline that runs so deep in martial arts, it’s only natural for the family to look for the old ways.
