That defeat is the only dark spot in the shining career of the heavyweight champion, however, it appears that the dark spot might be removed soon as the ‘Association of Boxing Commissions and Combative Sports’ new rules just dropped and it’s a relief to Jones. What are the rules and how did Jones react? Let us find out.

Jon Jones faced Matt Hamil in December 2009 on the Ultimate Fighter 10 finale. It was his fourth appearance under the promotion and he was already riding a nine-fight winning strike in his MMA career. ‘Bones’ was completely dominating his opponent until he pounded Hamill through a 12-6 elbow strike which forced the officials to step in and hand him the defeat by way of DQ. It was the only loss of Jon Jones but seems like it’s about to be overturned.

Why? Well the Association of Boxing Commissions and Combative Sports or the ABC has voted to remove the prolonged ban of the controversial 12-6 elbow strike from its unified rules and it will come into effect from Nov. 1. Witnessing this news, Jon Jones has come forward to ask Dana White to overturn his loss, “Undefeated then, undefeated now.. @danawhite we gotta get that loss out of the history books,” wrote Jon Jones in his Instagram.
If the decision is revoked then Jon Jones’s record would stand undefeated at 28 victories and 0 losses. However, it must be noted that the promotion might or might not pay any heed to Jones’s words. According to renowned journalist Ariel Helwani Jones might demand a revocation of the defeat but the UFC might not let that happen.

”Worth noting, Jon Jones can appeal his 2009 loss to Matt Hamill to get it overturned into a no contest (not a win) but it *might* be too late since that was almost 15 years ago,” wrote Helwani on his X. Well, the decision to overturn the loss lies in the hands of the topdogs of the promotion. Therefore, nothing can be said with a guaranteed confirmation for now. So, what’s next for the heavyweight champion? Lets find out.
