Leon Edwards and Belal Muhammad bagging $4.5 million—Are these fighters finally getting the recognition they deserve?

UFC 304 was an event that greatly enhanced the fight fans’ entropy with its fights. Not just the main and co-main event, but the rest of the cards also packed a powerful punch. Belal Muhammad’s unexpected victory over Leon Edwards had the fighting community roaring in excitement. But Tom Aspinall and Paddy Pimblett didn’t fail at extracting some awestruck reactions from the MMA world. But the excitement is not limited to the story inside the Octagon.

The compliance pay also witnessed a rise. The UFC Promotional Guidelines Compliance pay is not the entire pay, but just a small part of it. It is added to the fighters’ payslip under the UFC Athlete Outfitting Policy and also includes a few other items put under the Fighter Code of Conduct. Let’s see how much the fighters participating at UFC 304 received as compliance pay.

As many expected, the purse for UFC 304 was not as big as the ever-successful UFC 300. However, Dana White didn’t back down from giving the fighters what they deserved. Apart from the promised $100 thousand bonus, the event witnessed a massive collection of $307,500 as UFC Promotional Guidelines Compliance payout. This lifted the year-to-date total to $4,575,500.

The total amount of compliance pay for the past year totaled $8,188,000 and for the year before that, it was $8,351,500. This year is halfway to the end and has already amassed an amount that has the potential to compete with the previous year’s total compliance. On top of that, the program-to-date total was a massive $27,312,500.

Needless to say, the fighters competing in the main and co-main events received the maximum amount in compliance pay. And the trend followed just like any other event.  Muhammad and Curtis Blaydes received a heavy purse of $32,000, while Edwards and Aspinall bagged $10,000 more. But what about the other fighters?

  • Paddy Pimblett: $6,000; King Green: $21,000
  • Gregory Rodrigues: $6,000; Christian Leroy Duncan: $4,500
  • Arnold Allen: $11,000; Giga Chikadze: $6,000
  • Nathaniel Wood: $11,000; Daniel Pineda: $11,000
  • Bruna Brasil: $4,500; Molly McCann: $11,000

But did you know that despite the excitement in the arena, the UFC head honcho was not happy about paying $100 thousand as a bonus? Let’s see what he had to say about it.

UFC CEO was unhappy with the $100K bonus

At the pre-fight press conference, Green asked White for a $100K bonus and promised to spice things up in the Octagon. When White looked at Edwards for approval, the former welterweight champ simply gave a nod. This led the UFC CEO to believe that the fights would be full of finisher moves. However, White was pretty disappointed with how the main event turned out. After all, nobody likes a title fight that ends with a decision, don’t you think?

During the post-fight press conference, the UFC head honcho said, “I think tonight’s show that we should not. Upping them doesn’t change anything. It doesn’t make anybody fight any harder. It doesn’t change anything. I’m not doing this again. Ever. Today was the last, the last day that I’m doing that. I’m not saying that in the future, the bonuses couldn’t get up, but I’m not gonna be at a press conference, say, ‘200, 300’.F***ing never again. You can thank everybody on this card for that. Nobody fought any harder. There was no sense of urgency. ‘Holy s**t! I want the $100K!’”
