Daniel Cormier has recently floated an intriguing idea for the BMF (Baddest Motherf**ker) title in the UFC! The BMF title was created to highlight fighters who showcase their bravado and fighting spirit to the highest level inside the Octagon. It was first introduced at UFC 244 in 2019 when Nate Diaz took on Jorge Masvidal in the inaugural BMF title fight.

The belt was vacated when Masvidal, who won the strap against Diaz, retired from the UFC. And it was later claimed by Justin Gaethje at UFC 291 with his stunning knockout win over Dustin Poirier. Now, as Gaethje is set to defend the BMF belt against Max Holloway at UFC 300, Cormier has revealed what the UFC and Dana White can do to make the title even more prestigious and create more exciting matchups for the fans!

During a conversation on the ‘DC and RC’ show, Cormier’s co-host, Ryan Clark, inquired “Should the BMF belt be something that’s almost a little more official, where it can be defended, weight class be damned…”

Using the example of fighters like Justin Gaethje (155 lbs.) and Max Holloway (145 lbs.), he proposed that the belt should be up for grabs when fighters from different weight classes can meet. As such, Cormier pondered whether the BMF belt could become more official, transcending weight classes and allowing matchups regardless of traditional divisions.

Therefore, he stated, “RC, I think, I got an idea. What you think about this RC, a BMF title between every 2 weight classes, a 35-25 BMF championship, a 45-55 BMF championship, 70-85 BMF title and a heavyweight-lightheavyweight BMF title… ”

The essence of Cormier’s idea is to facilitate exciting cross-weight class matchups, where fighters in different weight classes could fight for the BMF title. This would create a dynamic scenario where the belt could change hands as fighters move between weight classes.

Despite Cormier’s proposal being hypothetical, it does spark an interesting conversation about the potential evolution of the BMF belt and its role in generating unique and entertaining matchups for the UFC and the fans!

In the aftermath of UFC 297, Daniel Cormier shared his insights on Raquel Pennington’s performance against Mayra Bueno Silva. Pennington secured the women’s bantamweight title through a unanimous decision victory in the co-main event, but Cormier believes she had the chance to finish the fight.

The former ‘champ-champ’ revealed on his YouTube channel that, “It felt like if she broke away from her and allowed for her or made her stand and trade with her, she could finish her.”

Cormier also empathized with the mental challenges of pursuing a UFC championship and while acknowledging Bueno Silva’s potential, Cormier highlighted her inexperience compared to Pennington. He stated, “I think very quickly she was reminded that she was now fighting at a level that she had not competed at prior.”

In conclusion, Cormier’s analysis provides a nuanced perspective on Pennington’s victory, hinting at a potential missed opportunity for a more decisive outcome. The mental challenges of championship aspirations and the contrasting experience levels of the fighters provided an interesting outlook on the UFC 297 co-main event!
