Is Trump's love for UFC a genuine passion or a strategic move to win over fans?

Everybody knows that Dana White is very good friends with Donald Trump. With the former US President being as beloved and revered as he is in the UFC world, it is unsurprising that Trump remains as big a fight fan as he has always been. This raises a very interesting question in many people’s minds- who is Trump’s favorite fighter?

After all Trump, according to White, still follows the sport religiously. The Republican Presidential nominee apparently even finds time to watch UFC events and discuss them with the UFC CEO. And Trump finds the time to do this despite his incredibly busy schedule at the height of the election season. But as far as the New Yorker’s favorite UFC fighter goes, White did not really know.

“You know what’s funny, he is so knowledgeable about the fight game and loves it. I mean every time he’s flying on his plane, or he’s on a Saturday he’s watching the UFC fights, or boxing. I mean he watches all kinds of combat sports. I mean he was very key and instrumental in the early days of boxing, you know at his Trump venues, putting on big fights from you know, Tyson to you name it, he put on all the big fights.

“No, he’s never told me who his favorite fighter is, but you know, pretty much every weekend he’ll call me after an event and to talk about the fights,” Dana White told ‘Mail Sport’ in an interview when asked about Trump’s favorite fighter.

Trump, of course, has spoken about undefeated former lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov being his favorite fighter, but Dana White seems either unaware of this or unwilling to say so. But White is correct on at least one thing.

Donald Trump’s love for combat sports goes back a long way and is quite well known. Not only did he use to host UFC and Mike Tyson fights at his venues, but also appeared as a character at the WWE.

WWE fans will remember the former President making appearances and feuding with then-WWE chairman Vince McMahon in a couple of storylines back in the late 2000s. Those storylines remain some of the most unique and entertaining in the history of the promotion as Trump played the baby face to McMahon’s tyrannical, unreasonable heel. And while McMahon and Trump are close too, their relationship pales in comparison to the friendship between the former President and the UFC CEO.

Donald Trump’s enduring love affair with Dana White and the UFC

Dana White has given the introductory speech for Donald Trump at all three Republican National Conventions where he was elected the GOP’s Presidential nominee. That’s how deep the friendship between him and the UFC CEO is. Trump would even find the time to attend UFC 302 this June when the campaign season was well underway.

And why not? After all, Donald Trump remains beloved among both the fighters and the fans as he received a standing ovation from the crowd when he entered the Prudential Center in New Jersey for UFC 302. This, of course, is in sharp contrast to the polarizing reputation Trump enjoys among the American people in general.

Not to mention some of the biggest UFC stars like Sean Strickland, Colby Covington, and Jorge Masvidal are ardent Trump supporters. Even Joe Rogan, who hasn’t officially endorsed Trump, is seen certainly by most of his fanbase as being at least inclined toward the New Yorker. And if there is one thing that can be said about Donald Trump, it is that he likes people who like him. That is why it is not surprising to see him have a soft spot for not just his old friend Dana White, but the UFC in general. What do you think about Dana White’s revelations about Donald Trump’s love for the UFC?
