In what seems like a massive update for fight fans, Dana White has given a crucial update on the much-awaited Tom Aspinall vs. Jon Jones title unification bout. The UFC head honcho has indicated his push. towards making the biggest fight in the promotion’s history. Aspinall is ready to jump at the prospect of unifying the titles, while Jones is demanding a fat paycheck. That fight is looming, and until something concrete is on the horizon, fans and reporters won’t let up on White regarding this bout.

It was therefore not surprising to see a reporter from Conor McGregor-owned MMA outlet, The Mac Life, ask Dana White about it. “The Tom Aspinall Jon Jones situation, firstly are you still confident we get that fight this year?” the reporter asked. Dana White had an answer, even if it didn’t really tell fans anything they don’t already know.

“Yeah, there’s no situation. It’s the biggest fight we could make. And I know the fans like to mess with Jon and whatever, [but] Jon Jones isn’t afraid of anybody. And Jon Jones will fight anybody. It’s just a matter of getting the fight done now. That’s our job,” White said.

Of course, the main obstacle standing in the way of Jones-Aspinall is ‘Bones’ and his demand for “f**k you money” to fight the interim champion. Exactly how much that is remains unknown, and it seems the UFC and Jones are negotiating to settle on an amount.

Of course, there are those who suspect that Jones the demand for a retirement payday is just a ploy to price himself out of the fight. A section of fans feel that Jones has been deliberately asking for big money because he knows the UFC won’t agree to his terms so easily. All this as a front to duck Aspinall while having a plausible excuse for doing so. But if that is the case, Dana White is ready to take some pretty drastic steps.

Dana White vows to strip Jon Jones if he doesn’t agree to fight Aspinall

If Jon Jones and the UFC cannot agree to terms for the Aspinall fight, Dana White will strip Jon Jones of the undisputed heavyweight title. “Listen, if we don’t get the fight done, we make another fight,” White said when asked if he would move on if Jones doesn’t agree by June. This could very well indicate stripping Jones of the title, making Aspinall undisputed champion, while booking Jones for a big money fight, say against someone like Alex Pereira.

Will Jon Jones finally face Tom Aspinall, or is this just another UFC tease?

Have an interesting take?

And Tom Aspinall is also on board with this. The Englishman has already said that he doesn’t want to “be in the Michael Chandler situation” (i.e. wait endlessly to fight Jones, like Chandler did for Conor McGregor only for their fight to fall through in the end). While having ‘Bones’, considered the greatest ever, on his resume would be big for Aspinall’s legacy, the interim champ won’t lose sleep if he doesn’t get to fight Jones.

After all, the Englishman’s only goal is to become undisputed UFC champion. Against whom or how doesn’t really matter to him. This could very well mean that if Jones doesn’t agree by mid-2025 to fight Aspinall, the UFC would definitely strip him of the title.
