“It’s the biggest fight we can make,” Dana White said of the bout between Jon Jones and Tom Aspinall. Indeed, at this point, that is the biggest fight for the heavyweight division. Then why is the UFC head honcho taking so long to announce the bout? It seems like the Aspinall vs. Jones title unification fight between the Titans has everything except a plan and a date. Amid all the waiting, Brazilian fighter Jailton Almeida has come forth with a solution for White.

Taking to X, the 33-year-old Brazilian heavyweight revealed his idea. But let us tell you, it was nowhere near a traditional approach for the championship belt. ‘Malhadinho’ suggested that while the heavyweight champion and the interim heavyweight champion fought to unite the belts, the UFC could opt for a Grand Prix-style event. Almeida vs Alexander Volkov is an exciting enough fight for the community. After all, the duo were set to land against each other at UFC 302. Unfortunately, the fight never materialized. On top of that, Volkov has already cleared most of the heavyweight division, except a few including Almeida.

On the other side of the Grand Prix, Almeida suggested a fight between Ciryl Gane and Sergey Spivak. This was based on the fact that the two have never really faced each other in a fight. Almeida wrote, “Let’s do it like this. Jones x Aspinall fight for belt + a GP between the contenders: Almeida x Volkov this fight was already booked and I’m the only one Volkov hasn’t fought yet. Gane x Sergey two European strikers who never fought each other. Who wins most [impressively], fights for [the] belt.”

Whether Dana White will agree to Almeida’s proposal is something that’s yet to be seen. But the UFC head honcho probably won’t stick to the idea of waiting on Jones to accept the Aspinall fight. It’s true that ‘Bones’ direly needs a win against the British interim champion to cement his legacy as a heavyweight. However, he has been avoiding the bout for quite some time. Let’s see what the UFC bossman had to say about the matchup.

Dana White doesn’t plan of waiting for Jon Jones vs. Tom Aspinall

On the night of UFC 309, White reflected on the reality of the bout between Jon Jones and Tom Aspinall. When a reporter asked him if the bout would go down in the Summer of 2025, the UFC boss agreed. But there was a catch. He said, “If we don’t get the fight done, we move on, and we make another fight. But not last night, but the night before, I was up in my room with my people until like 6 in the morning. We’re working on lots of stuff right now. There’s lots of really good sh*t going on right now.”

White seemed convinced that the heavyweight champion wasn’t afraid of anybody and that he’d actually fight anyone thrown in front of him. According to White, it was only a matter of putting the fight together, given Aspinall’s inclination to unify the title as well. The UFC head honcho revealed that Jones is definitely into the fight. All that needed to be done was to decide the place and time of the fight.

Is Jon Jones dodging Tom Aspinall, or is Dana White just dragging his feet on this fight?
