When Dana White said he had “no interest” in Francis Ngannou and ‘Bones‘ fighting, only one head nodded along with him. That was the reigning bantamweight champion, Sean O’Malley. That is not to say that there aren’t others who support the idea. It’s just that the backlash has been severe and the UFC CEO has finally found some backing, from the bantamweight champion.
O’Malley recently uploaded a podcast episode on his own YouTube channel. Here, he and his coach and friend Tim Welch discussed several topics. The pair also touched upon the potential of a Ngannou and Jones match. Here’s everything that went down during the talks.

On the latest episode of his podcast, Sean O’Malley presented a rather practical take on the whole Ngannou vs. Jones fight. He backed up Dana White in his opinion of the match and White has been rather vocal about it just not happening.
O’Malley compared the two promotions, PFL and the UFC. Since Ngannou now works with the PFL, it’ll be impossible for it to not be a cross-promotion event. That would also put the PFL in the limelight along with the UFC. But does Dana White want that?
“Why would you?” said O’Malley talking about the matchup. “That’s what doesn’t make any sense… That’s a direct competitor. You have a massive platform compared to them. It’s just there’s nothing there… only people that are worth fighting are in the UFC.”
His stance is clear. There is no beef between Ngannou and O’Malley as there may be between the heavyweight and White. This makes it possible for ‘Suga’ to have an opinion that can potentially sway away from any bias. The UFC does have great fighters and Jones is considered the GOAT. However, Ngannou is still a big name, especially after his recent exploits. Here’s what White had to say about it all at the UFC 295 post-fight presser.

White recently appeared in a press conference where a reporter asked him about the cross-promotion event that could be Ngannou and Jones. However, the reporter was ridiculed and laughed at by White, who told him he won the “dumb question of the night” title.
“I’m not interested in that. We tried to make that fight. They didn’t want to do it,” Dana White said. “And it’s done. He doesn’t fight here anymore,” the CEO added. Back when he announced the Cameroonian’s exit, White had assured Ngannou would not fight under the UFC banner again. Despite numerous demands for Ngannou vs. Jones, the UFC head honcho is sticking to his words.

White and O’Malley are pretty much on the same side of things on the Ngannou debate. Meanwhile, the PFL star has been vocal about his desire to fight Jones one day. Will it ever really come to fruition? At this rate, we may never really know.
