After Patricio Pitbull joined the UFC earlier this year in February, the promotion reportedly added another exciting featherweight fighter from Bellator, Aaron Pico. As reported by Red Corner MMA, the KO artist was supposedly on the verge of making his debut at UFC Vegas 106 on May 17 against the undefeated Movsar Evloev. But it seems like Dana White’s alleged plan isn’t going to materialize on the scheduled date. Aaron Pico is one of the red-hot free agents recently in the MMA scene. Moreover, the head honcho expressed interest in signing the Olympic hopeful to the promotion’s ranks.

After UFC 311, White was asked if he was interested in signing two of the more high-profile mixed martial arts free agents, Pitbull and Pico. White didn’t sound too sure about Pitbull, but he made a point to say the UFC was “definitely interested” in Pico. Debuting at the age of 20 and losing his first outing in Bellator, the 28-year-old would go on to amass an impressive 13 wins at the expense of 4 losses, with 11 finishes to his name. Pico’s stocks are high, and he was reportedly set to clash against probably the toughest opponent for any newcomer, Movsar Evloev.

Pico’s former employer, Scott Coker, claimed that the featherweight fighter could very well be “the greatest prospect in the history of MMA,” way back in 2017. However, Aaron will seemingly have to wait for his chance at Movsar Evloev because the undefeated star has his sights on someone else’s fight. According to a report from ‘Red Fury MMA’, Movsar Evloev’s team has decided to reconsider fighting Aaron Pico. Why? Well, the 19-0 undefeated Russian star wants to check what the outcome of the main event title fight will be at UFC 314 between Alexander Volkanovski and Diego Lopes, and then, he’ll make up his mind as to whom he’s going to fight next.

With a 9-0 streak in the UFC, the Russian juggernaut has been calling for a title shot for a while now, but he doesn’t seem to be one of those fighters who directly find themselves in title fights after just a few fights. However, the featherweight star is not willing to keep nagging Dana White for a title shot. Let’s see what he said at the end of last year.

Not begging for a title shot, claimed Movsar Evloev

Movsar Evloev has seemingly come to terms that speaking out about his wish to fight for the title on a public platform will not work or help him in getting a title shot. He wants to prove that a title shot for him is undeniable. How? Well, the simple method to do that is to keep beating whoever gears up to butt heads with the 19-0 juggernaut. That, eventually, will pay off, and in the meantime, he’ll also be making some good money.

“I don’t care, honestly. If he’s thinking that I don’t deserve [to fight] for the title, just give me another fight,” Movsar Evloev stated after his UFC 310 victory over Aljamain Sterling. “I will keep winning even like 100 and 0. Then maybe they will think about title shot for me.” If there’s someone who really deserves a title shot when it comes to the statistics, it’s Evloev, and he could very well try and make his case for a title shot against whoever wins at UFC 314.

Is Movsar Evloev dodging Aaron Pico, or is he just being strategic about his next fight?

Well, Dana White isn’t a fan of fighters who decline matchups offered to them. And in case Movsar Evloev was offered the fight and chose to sit out for some time, maybe the UFC CEO ends up pairing Aaron Pico with another contender, if and when his signing becomes official. We’ll have to wait and see how things pan out in the coming days. Let us know your thoughts in the comments down below!
