At UFC Vegas 89, bizarre scenes unfolded much to the amusement of UFC CEO Dana White. In one of the prelim bouts, Andre Lima got bit by his opponent and fellow Brazilian, Igor Severino. Clearly, things were a bit way too intense for Severino, who decided to put his teeth to work when he got the chance to close in on Lima.
The bite left deep marks on Lima’s inner bicep and was still visible once the fight was called off. The rules have always been to not bite your opponents and for that, Severino was disqualified. Lima, on the other hand, received a bonus. And now, his bonus has been doubled. Why?

Andre Lima got his shot at being in the UFC at Dana White‘s Contender Series in 2023 and now, he’s secured his first win since then, but it didn’t come in a simple manner. After being bit by his opponent, Lima did the only sensible thing. He got the bite mark tattooed.
Interesting right? Dana White shared an Instagram story of the tattoo which said “I Got F*cking Bit Bonus” around the bite marks, which were also made permanent with ink. White loved the idea, perhaps more than anyone else, and captioned the story:
“I was gong to give him 25k @andremascote_ Now I’m giving him 50k. This is AWESOME!” Clearly, apart from points for creativity, he’s also gotten himself more money. Lima was going well and strong throughout the rounds, and perhaps he could have won had it not been for the DQ.
UFC Vegas 89 was certainly an exciting event to witness. It saw bonuses being dropped on multiple fighters and fights after amazing finishes to their bouts. Apart from Lima’s ‘bite-bonus’, there were three other occasions where fighters received a big paycheck.
