The UFC has become synonymous with mixed martial arts over the past 30 years. The rankings and promotions have done an incredible job of popularising the sport more than any other organization. And now it is gearing up to put up the 300th pay-per-view event in April. However, this does not mean that there is no controversy regarding the organization and Dana White’s rankings.

Fans are not only talking about the delayed return of Conor McGregor with Dana White not giving any dates but there also has been chitchatting about rankings in the UFC 300. Recently Renato Moicano, 13th Rank UFC lightweight, voiced his concerns over the apparent ‘fake’ rankings.

In a recent podcast with OverDogs Podcast Moicano revealed that there was disparity in the rankings when it came to UFC 300. He stated, “UFC rankings they are making no fu** sense. Dan Hooker just passed Jalin Turner without fighting and I don’t know how it works, its politics again. I want to be number one so I will beat the number ten and keep climbing. Not because of the belt again because of the money. I want PPV points and I want to get rich off this stuff.”

He also previously warned that if UFC failed to come up with good headliners that blew the brains of fans then the promotion would have no use.  Back in 2022 he also revealed that he doesn’t care about rankings anymore. He has always confessed that he cared more about the money even if it was a sad truth.

Meanwhile, the reason behind him only caring about the money is that he hasn’t been getting ranked opponents, and also he hasn’t been getting booked for fights. And he isn’t the only one frustrated with the rankings. Many other fighters have also expressed their disappointment with the UFC rankings in the past, including lightweight champion Islam Makachev.

At UFC 284 Makachev fought the number 1 P4P fighter in the UFC Alexander Volkanovsky. Islam was successful in dethroning the Australian from the top spot. However, despite beating him the Russian fighter stayed at number two while the great was still on number one.  After that came the turn of Jon Jones who made his comeback and became a champion and got the number one spot.

This was not acceptable to Makachev who had confessed his feelings in an interview with Daniel Cormier. He said, “This is bulls**t man. How Jon Jones can be number one? He’s beaten some guy who is not champion, this guy doesn’t have a belt, and they give him number one pound-for-pound. This is bulls**t.”

Makachev wasn’t the only one disappointed with the rankings, his manager Abdelaziz was also unhappy. “@MAKHACHEVMMA Islam Makhachev was #2 P4P, fought the #1 P4P for his ranking, won and now he’s P4P #3. These rankings are bullsh*t,” he tweeted. He pointed out that the Dagestani had defeated Volkanovski in their fight at UFC 284 in February 2023. But even after his win he did not move to the top rankings and went to number three after John Jones’s victory in heavyweight.
