Dana White's payout to Callum Walsh—fair reward or blatant underpayment? What's your take?

Cork’s Callum Walsh once again proved to the world why he is the most sought-after boxer in the world at the moment. Walsh defended his WBC Continental Americas Super Welterweight title in front of his home crowd in Ireland. The young boxer took on Polishman Przemyslaw Runowski at Dublin’s 3 Arena in front of his home crowd.

It’s interesting to note that UFC CEO Dana White was a major factor in Callum Walsh’s rise to prominence. Why? That’s because the UFC CEO offered to sponsor the Irish boxer after nobody else showed interest in contributing even a penny. Nevertheless, let’s take a deeper look at how much he paid( POTN)to his favorite boxer after his fight.

Walsh’s recent paydays have reportedly been significantly higher than most of the fighters of his age. At just 23-year-old Walsh has already bagged a lot of money from his fights.  As reported by NY Fights, it is believed that Walsh bagged a $150k guaranteed purse for his fight against Dauren Yeleussinov, which he won via knockout. In his recent outing against Carlos Ortiz Cervantes in June 2024, the Irish boxer was expected to secure a $350k payout. So, how much did he make after his dominating performance this time around?

Walsh, in his first title defense in his home country, looked in sublime form. King Callum’s left hook sent the veteran fighter to the ground with just a minute left in the second round. What followed was complete chaos as the home ground went wild and started cheering its very own son. It is believed that Walsh could have received a six-figure guaranteed payout in this fight as he is a much bigger name.

He also received the Performance of the Night Award( POTN) which was revealed by Jed I. Goodman on his X account. He shared a tweet that read “Dana White says Callum Walsh and Thomas Carty both won $5K POTN bonuses.” If we compare the amount with what the UFC fighters earn in performance bonuses, it is pretty less. At last weekend’s UFC 306, the performance of the night bonuses were $50,000 as usual.

Earlier this week, UFC CEO Dana White announced that he will be traveling to Ireland to witness the young boxer. White took to his social media account to announce, “I’m jumping on a plane and flying to Dublin, Ireland, for the boxing match this weekend.” So why is Dana White promoting his rival sport and telecasting fights on UFC Fight Pass? It seems he likes the Irish boxer mainly because of his mindset and never-say-die attitude.

Callum Walsh opens up on why UFC CEO Dana White is backing him

The UFC president, similar to what he once saw in former UFC dual champion Conor McGregor, sees potential in this Irish sensation. That’s the reason he and 360 Promotions CEO Tom Loeffler have been Callum Walsh’s supporters for a very long time. Since Walsh has never lost in his young boxing career, Dana White’s UFC organization may find him to be a prized asset in the future. Callum Walsh has vehemently refuted all accusations of favoritism when asked about White’s bias towards him. The 23-year-old is confident that the UFC CEO sees certain qualities in him, making him his favorite.
