Just last year, UFC CEO Dana White spoke about the Power Slap League’s second big event and revealed how well the controversial slap-fight promotion was doing. After Power Slap 2 was held at the UFC Apex facility in Las Vegas, White revealed that Power Slap 2 achieved mind-blowing numbers on social media. He even claimed that the event’s metrics surpassed the historic Eastern Conference finals between the Miami Heat and the Boston Celtics.
However, now it seems like White is facing trouble getting viewership for the event. But why do we say so? Well, that’s because the UFC CEO recently uploaded a post on Instagram where he revealed a $256,500 McLaren 600LT Spider giveaway for Power Slap viewers. He wrote, “@jellybean.irl is giving away this McLaren 600LT Spider FOR FREE!!! All you have to do is watch @powerslap this Friday, Dec 6th, LIVE and FREE on Rumble. Go to the link in the bio for details.”
However, it was the video that caught the true attention of the fans. In the clip, a model can be seen hitting a supercar with a sword and breaking its window before announcing the giveaway on camera. A tactic that not many in the realm of the UFC might be very appreciative of, considering that the MMA community is already not a big fan of the Power Slap league despite White promoting it time and again on his social media.

In fact, White didn’t get much support when he tried to start the sport in the first place. According to the Hollywood Reporter, an official close to David Zaslav said that it was only through Ari Emanuel and Craig Piligian’s insistence that Warner Bros. Discovery’s CEO and president invested in the sport. And now it seems like fans aren’t too supportive of the promotional methods either, with Dana White using such advertisements to boost numbers.
Fans rally against Dana White’s giveaway ad
As soon as the ad hit the internet, fans were quick to voice out their opinions against it. Many felt that Dana White was thirst-trapping his fans to get some viewership. They wrote, “We got Dana thirst trapping us before GTA 6,” and “Damn Dana thirst trapping, never would of thought I’d see the day.” Other users were simply left confused as to why Dana White would shoot such an ad. After all, the UFC is known for creating some beautiful trailers to promote its brand and events. “Dana what are we doing man”, “Dana we need answers,” and “Dana wtf is this” were among the unenthusiastic reactions.

Some other users believed that this campaign would do more harm to UFC than promote Powerslap. Some even claimed that the UFC could’ve given the money to underpaid UFC fighters instead. After all, it has been a major issue that other fighters and even cross-sports athletes such as Jake Paul have raised against the head honcho of the promotion. They wrote, “Dana just turned everyone against UFC,” and “This is what the millions he could be paying his fighters goes to.”
It’s no secret that Dana White-faced criticism for promoting slap fights and that the Power Slap League was not well received by combat sports fans when it launched. Compared to the UFC, the Power Slap League has not worked as expected, nor has it gained enough support from fans. What do you think of the ad? Will it help White boost his numbers?
