Controversial UFC star Colby Covington made headlines after issuing a death threat to the famous UFC commentator Jon Anik. The whole MMA community took notice of it as retired UFC fighter Dan Hardy shared his thoughts on the situation in a recent interview.
UFC president Dana White recently announced ‘Chaos’ Covington as the next welterweight title contender. He has not fought in the UFC in almost a year. However, White decided to give him the title opportunity since he accepted the backup fighter’s role for UFC 286 headliner on a day’s notice. But Jon Anik wasn’t pleased with that decision.

After ‘Chaos’ was announced to be the next title contender, Jon Anik had other thoughts in mind. He believed that 9-win undefeated fighter Belal Muhammad should have been awarded the fight. However, this erupted into a full-blown heated rant by Covington on the UFC commentator.

Colby Covington went all out with his trash talk and even sent a death threat to one of the most recognizable UFC broadcast members in the promotion. Many UFC personalities and the fans didn’t take too kindly to the whole X-rated rant. Dan Hardy was one of them.

‘The Outlaw’ recently appeared in an interview on famous combat sports journalist Ariel Helwani’s YouTube channel. He reacted to Covington’s publicly threatening a staff member of the UFC. Hardy believes that the UFC might exempt him from any kind of repercussions due to the amount of money he makes for the company. He said, “It’s a very case-by-case basis in the UFC. I probably wasn’t making as much money as Colby Covington is.”

Hardy then took a jibe at Dana White’s infamous slap incident on New Year’s eve by claiming that he had set the bar for these kinds of altercations. “Dana [White] set the standard on New Year’s eve, didn’t he? You can’t berate a member of your roster after you’re behaving like that on-camera… Dana’s putting himself in a difficult position and the UFC has put Dana in a difficult position.”

Dan Hardy mentions how UFC is the biggest player in MMA. And he believes they have the capability to not only damage the organization but the sport of MMA as well. The promotion has not put out any official statement regarding Colby Covington’s death threat. We will have to wait and see what follows.
