Many believe that the former interim lightweight champion, Justin Gaethje, has what it takes to be the next UFC lightweight champion. Gaethje has been consecutively putting up some insane performances. He is, without a doubt, one of the most entertaining fighters on the roster right now.

Gaethje recently spoke with MMA Junkie and shared his thoughts on the upcoming fight between Charles Oliveira and Dustin Poirier at UFC 269.

Charles Oliveira will be taking on the challenger, Dustin Poirier, for the UFC lightweight championship in the main event of the card.

“As a fan I’m excited to watch it. The more I think about it the more I cannot put my finger on it. You know, on what’s gonna happen. So that’s very it’s interesting, that’s why I wanna be in the building. Dana said I get the next shot so I’m gonna show my face as much as I can around this weekend.” said Gaethje.

“They were both fighting when I was in college. Way before I ever thought I would be in the UFC. So it’s awesome to see honestly. It’s inspiration. Whichever one wins, it’ll be a great story,” he added.

After Justin Gaethje beat Michael Chandler for the supposed Number one contender spot at UFC 268, he’s set himself up for the big game. ‘The Highlight’ will be taking on the winner of the fight between Oliveria and Poirier next year for the lightweight title.

This will mark his second shot at the UFC lightweight title after his bout against Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 254 last year

Gaethje’s reason for backing “Do Bronx” is fair enough. Justin has been waiting to get his shot at the title and has also put up some extraordinary performances to show that he deserves it.

His last fight against Michael Chandler at UFC 268 is most likely to win the ‘ Fight of The Year’ honor. Even though Chandler is a world-class opponent, Gaethje absolutely outclassed him in every aspect.
