Jake Paul made waves in the combat sports world with his recent victory over the legendary Mike Tyson which had everyone talking. The event, dubbed one of the most monumental in combat sports history, shattered records, with Netflix reporting that over 60 million households worldwide tuned in to watch. Despite its massive success, UFC CEO Dana White wasn’t exactly impressed by Paul’s performance. During the UFC 309 press conference, White shared his thoughts, stating, “He had a knee brace on, and Jake Paul couldn’t do anything to him.”
Unsurprisingly, Paul didn’t take the criticism lightly. The outspoken boxer clapped back with a sharp retort, saying, “Couldn’t sell 4K tickets in Dublin with that useless Irish boxer he’s promoting.” The ‘useless Irish boxer’ in question is none other than Callum Walsh, a rising star in the boxing world. Walsh didn’t let the jab slide and has since responded to Paul’s remarks, setting the stage for what could potentially be another heated rivalry.

Callum Walsh, the so-called “useless Irish boxer” targeted by Jake Paul in a recent rant, has fired back in a big way. Walsh, an undefeated rising star in boxing, has been supported by UFC president Dana White since the early stages of his professional career. Recently, Walsh headlined an event at Dublin’s 3Arena, which was broadcast live on UFC Fight Pass and personally promoted and attended by White. The 23-year-old didn’t hold back after Paul’s comments, taking to X to challenge Paul to a fight.
In his response, Walsh tweeted, “The ‘useless Irish boxer’ has won more than you could ever imagine—over 140 amateur fights and now 12-0 as a pro, unlike you at 11-1, fighting old retired men. The one boxer your age, you lost to. You know where I am.” In a recent appearance on Mike Perry’s Overdogs Podcast, Walsh elaborated on the situation. He defended White, who has been a vocal supporter of his career, saying, “Everybody talks s**t about Dana, but I don’t even have a contract with Dana. Dana makes no money from me—he gets nothing from me, you know what I mean.”

Despite this, Walsh credited White for transforming his life and expressed gratitude for the UFC boss’s support. Turning his attention back to Paul, Walsh didn’t mince words, “And Jake Paul talking s**t about me and Dana? I’d fight him, no problem. I feel like I would knock him out. I’d have to put on some weight, but it would be fine.”

Earlier this year, UFC president Dana White surprised the combat sports world by announcing his plans to travel to Ireland to support Walsh. Despite his often vocal criticism of boxing, White made it clear that Walsh’s homecoming fight against Przemyslaw Runowski on September 20 was an event he couldn’t miss. But why has White thrown his weight behind Walsh so enthusiastically?

Dana White’s professional relationship with the 23-year-old boxer has raised eyebrows, with some drawing comparisons to the UFC president’s early backing of former dual champion Conor McGregor. Alongside Tom Loeffler of 360 Promotions, White has been instrumental in positioning Walsh as a rising star with the potential to become a major asset for the UFC brand in the future.

Despite claims of favoritism, Walsh has been quick to shut down any such suggestions. Instead, he attributes White’s support to their shared vision for the sport. During a recent interview, Walsh explained his mindset and how it aligns with White’s approach, saying, “I don’t pick and choose opponents. That’s why Dana is pushing me because he knows I’m bringing this UFC mindset. I want to make these big fights happen, and obviously, with Dana White helping and with a promoter like Tom Loeffler, I think we are going to change boxing a lot. I’m going to make these big fights happen.”
Walsh’s commitment to challenging himself against the best competition in the sport resonates with White’s philosophy, making their partnership a natural fit. As for his rivalry with Jake Paul, it has sparked widespread speculation. Will the feud escalate into an actual fight? What do you think? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
