Ever since Islam Makhachev’s super fight with Alexander Volkanovski, people are pouring in love for the two fighters. Everybody seems to be respectful and appreciative of the two for their fabulous performance. Islam Makhachev won his UFC 284 main event via a unanimous decision. But not long after the fight, clouds of controversy started to hover around the lightweight champion’s head.

Islam Makhachev has been accused of IV usage before the fight. Since IVs are not usually allowed by USADA, many are claiming that the Russian ‘cheated’ his way toward the win.

It all started with Dan Hooker posting a tweet about this issue and the topic is now being discussed by many.

Recent tweets between Dan Hooker and Brett Okamoto about Islam Makhachev’s IV usage

Brett Okamoto is a MMA journalist for ESPN. Okamoto recently created a thread where he talked about the allowance of IV usage in detail. His tweets made it clear that he sided with Islam Makhachev with regard to this matter.

However, Dan Hooker thought Okamoto’s information was incomplete. Consequently, the UFC fighter went ahead to tell the ESPN journalist that some facts that the reporter was missing.

Dan Hooker, in his now-deleted reply to Okamoto, mentioned, “Athletic commissions require any athlete who receives an IV surrounding a fight to (1) obtain permission from the commission before receiving an IV and; (2) disclose use of that IV to the commission after its use.”

Fan Reactions To Dan Hooker’s Tweet

One fan said – “Sh*t getting interesting yo, pump up the news. My eyes is all f*cking in”

Another said – “Ufc’s reputation be needing an IV after the last couple of months”

One fan criticized Hooker by saying – “Goofball! kids these days just dont wanna fight. thats all i say to that.”

Another one jokingly said – “brett needing dan hooker to explain the rules! Lol”

One fan said – “Brett probably just copy and pasted what Ali sent on to him.”

One fan tried to give some information about the matter by saying – “Should be noted the Western Australia athletic commission strictly prohibits the use of IV’s to rehydrate. It’s right there on their website.”

One fan pointed out – “Easy out for the nurse, not Islam. If confirmed to be true the fight should be deemed a NC.”
