“CUT MOLLY”: Nasty Armbar Loss in Front of Home Crowd for Molly McCann Sends Fans Into a Meltdown As MMA World Reacts to Disappointing Finish at UFC London

The entire arena was excited for Marcin Tybura’s and Tom Aspinall’s final fight at UFC Fight Night 224. However, that wasn’t the only attraction. There were interesting rivalries being played out on the sidelines. The war between Liverpool’s own Molly McCann and the Lithuanian flyweight submission queen, Julija Stoliarenko, was one such fight. The crowd was excited for the home girl, Molly, but sadly there was not much for them to cheer about. Stoliarenko defeated ‘Meatball’ with a fast finish by armbar in the very first round.

Stoliarenko took advantage of her reach as soon as the match started, but McCann warded the attacks off. Soon, Stoliarenko attempted a takedown and took control of McCann’s back. But the transition was way too quick.

Stoliarenko got hold of the Englishwoman’s arm and rolled around. But one would have seldom imagined that McCann would lose with an armbar within the first round. While ‘Meatball’ was picked as the fan favorite, it was the underdog’s night to claim a victory. The world of mixed martial arts was disappointed with the outcome and expressed itself on social media.

It doesn’t come as a surprise when the fan-favorite fighter loses and the fans go into a frenzy. Such was the scenario when Stoliarenko scored yet another win by armbar against McCann. The fans were simply not happy.

Many fans claimed that the English WMMA contender should be cut out from the rosters.

One of the fans tweeted that ‘Meatball’ was embarrassed in her homeland.

The fans didn’t fail to make fun of  McCann.

Another fan spoke on behalf of the entire world of mixed martial arts and claimed to be happy that McCann was on the losing end of the fight.

Furthermore, some fans equated the fight to the fate that rising UFC newcomer Paddy Pimblett would face in the next event.

Lastly, one fan noticed that the fight didn’t last long enough.

Watching the underdogs win is a satisfying emotion that is common to all sports. However, a fan-favorite fighter losing in one’s homeland is a punch that’s quite hard to take. Nevertheless, Stoliarenko thanked McCann for the fight as she finished wrapping up the post-fight interview.
