Curtis Blaydes, or like many fight fans like to call him, ‘Razor’, has been impressing the fighting community with his skillset that he picked up at his gym in Denver. Needless to say, his family and origin story played a big role in turning him into the fighter that he is. Despite his razor-sharp precision, Blaydes lost his first-ever UFC bout against Francis Ngannou. But instead of sulking, he went on to train harder and conquer the fans’ hearts with 18 victories and just one loss. Even his last bout against Jailton Almeida was an impressive win for the 265-pound fighter, as he sent forth a barrage of punches on Almeida’s head on the ground.

But today, let’s have a look at the heavyweight fighter’s origins. While he trains in Denver, is he really from the base of the majestic Rocky Mountains? Let’s find out!

‘Razor’ was born in Naperville, Illinois, on 8th February 1991. However, he was raised in Chicago along with his siblings. The proud American heavyweight mixed martial artist began his journey in the fighting realm at a pretty early age, more specifically in his high school where he began to wrestle. The DeLaSalle Institute on Chicago’s Southside witnessed the growth of a young Blaydes, as he made varsity in his sophomore year and won the state tournament as a senior.

But did you know that Blaydes was initially unenthusiastic towards wrestling? Well, the split between his parents was a tough time as he had to move between Bronzeville and other neighboring places. His football coach, who was also his wrestling coach, pushed him into the realm of wrestling. Since his first-ever match didn’t go as expected, ‘Razor’ thought of quitting. But thanks to his father, Blaydes went on and became one of the strongest fighters in the UFC.

The #4 heavyweight contender in the UFC had to leave Chicago and move to Denver. It was a decision that he made after debuting in the MMA promotion back in 2016. The reason? He just wanted to join a major gym with legit MMA coaches and sparring partners. If you have guessed it already, you are a humongous Curtis Blaydes fan. He indeed joined the MusclePharm with Team Elevation, at Denver, and the rest is history.

Who are Curtis Blaydes’ parents? Does he have siblings?

The heavyweight contender faced quite a bit of hurdles while growing up. One such problem was the separation of his parents. While not much is known about his mother, the rest of his family hasn’t failed to make each other proud with their service to the United States of America. Blaydes’ father and two brothers are officers in the police force.

In an interview with Aaron Bronsteter of TSN back in 2020, ‘Razor’ revealed, “My dad is a police officer in Chicago, my younger brother is also a Chicago police officer. And my older brother is a Dallas police officer.” On top of being police officers, Blaydes’ younger sibling once went on to help the Southside Chicago neighborhoods. Blaydes proudly shared the news on X when the video of his brother helping around in the neighborhood began circling the internet. He seemed pretty happy with the kind of work his sibling was doing.
