All eyes focused on Conor McGregor after the press conference for his fight against Michael Chandler was canceled. It created quite a ruckus in the world of mixed martial arts with the fight fans waiting eagerly for about three years to watch McGregor fight. ‘The Notorious’ later revealed that the reason for the cancelation of his fight was actually a broken pinky toe. He also shared a picture of his discolored toe on social media. Despite losing the chance to fight at UFC 303, the Irish star recently claimed that he would return in a couple of months’ time. However, Chael Sonnen seemed to have a different opinion.

‘The American Gangster’ has claimed that McGregor might have been ‘faking’ his injury a few times before. But now, he thinks that the Irishman won’t be returning within a period of two months.

In a recent talk with Daniel Cormier on the ‘Good Guy/Bad Guy’ show, Sonnen simply couldn’t believe why the UFC would cancel a press conference over a discolored toe. He said, “We know it was set up, we know that venue was booked, we know everything was in place. We didn’t hold the press conference. And I cannot for the life of me figure out how a press conference gets canceled over a discolored pinky toe.” Thereafter, he pointed out that there was always an option of coming in via video conference.

Cormier was also of the same belief. He opined that the fans would have remained excited had the Irishman attended the conference despite his injury. It would have helped the fans believe in his return at the end of the month. However, Sonnen was not convinced. He claimed that the MMA community was keeping a tight secret, although it was not in the sports’ nature. Sonnen said, “When I’m coming in and I’m giving you speculation that I don’t believe, I don’t actually have evidence. Everybody has kept their mouth shut. I’m just saying this story has problems. But I don’t have another one that I can offer you.”

In a recent conversation with Severe MMA, McGregor confirmed that he was recovering and would return sometime in August or September. But Sonnen claimed that it was simply not going to happen. ‘The Bad Guy’ believed that the cards in the upcoming couple of months were already filled by athletes. However, the main events for UFC 306, UFC 307, and UFC 308 are yet to be booked.

Sonnen then talked about how McGregor got himself a fight against Donald Cerrone back at UFC 246. But now, things have changed. He pointed out how ‘Iron’ was publicly getting fight offers other than that with McGregor. He said, “And the fact that his very opponent Michael Chandler is now publicly being offered different fights shows us the evidence that we need. The reality versus McGregor’s statement are not the same thing.”
