It seems like Joe Rogan’s famous podcast, the Joe Rogan Experience can really never be away from headlines. Usually, it is Rogan himself, or his guests, who bring the spotlight on the Spotify exclusive show, because of their bold and unfiltered opinions. But this time, it has nothing to do with either of them. Over a month ago, a podcast, apparently featuring Rogan and OpenAI founder Sam Altman, was released on YouTube.
The only problem with this was that neither Rogan nor Altman were actually a part of the podcast. It was AI-generated, with the deep fake voices of the UFC commentator and Altman. It was actually generated by ChatGPT, and was posted under a channel called ‘The Joe Rogan AI Experience’. Over the course of the last month, two more AI-created episodes have been released. Recently, the creator of this channel answered some questions while remaining behind the curtain of anonymity.
The creator of the Joe Rogan AI Experience goes by the name of Hugo. Hugo did an interview with The Verge, and did not reveal his last name to stay anonymous. He lives in Sydney and works as a creative director of a VFX studio and an advertising agency.

The Joe Rogan AI Experience creator opens up
In the interview, Hugo discussed his intentions behind the creation of this podcast. According to Hugo, he is replicating Rogan’s popular podcast purely for fun. The anonymous YouTuber also said that people should not make TikToks trying to misrepresent his videos. “This is purely fiction, just for fun. So don’t go around making your little TikToks and make the world believe I said things I never said”, Hugo mentioned.
Hugo also explained how it can take him anywhere between a day to several weeks to create a single podcast. “The first […episode] took me a week, the second one took me a day and a half, and the last one took me more than three weeks.”

Joe Rogan, the real one, has repeatedly talked about the dangers of these AI-generated videos because of their similarities to real content. However, Hugo does not believe this. He thinks that AI-generated videos, like the one he creates, can easily be spotted as fake.

“I think we’re not anywhere near close to replacing real podcasts or real conversation yet. But I can understand the fear of people. Because I don’t think it’s super close. I mean, it is close, but if you’ve watched a lot of Joe Rogan’s podcast, you can feel straight away that (The Joe Rogan AI Experience) is not real and lacks a lot of emotion and correct intonations.”
The debate about whether these AI-generated videos are safe or not is not looking like a short one. Let us wait and watch what turns this conversation takes in the near future.
