The winner at UFC 287 had an “uh oh” moment as she revealed an illegal act. As per UFC’s Fighter Conduct Policy, it is unethical for a fighter or their family members to bet on themselves. However, Hughes recently disclosed that her boyfriend had placed a bet on her.
Sam Hughes said, “I know, uh, my boyfriend told me he put a grand on me, which I wish he wouldn’t have told me that. But he owes me a very good dinner. I’ll tell you that.” A reporter asked, “when did he tell you that?”
Hughes added, “Like a couple of days ago, plus 400 or something like that. So I was like , I love it, I love it,”.
Furthermore, another reporter asked, “With you winning your boyfriend so much money, what presents does he owes you now? What are you entitled to?”
Hughes replied, “A lot. All of it probably.”
The UFC strawweight was completely oblivious to the fact that she had disclosed something that was against UFC policy. Fans expressed their reactions to Hughes’ comments.

The interview immediately went viral all over the internet as the fans saw the clip. MMA fighting.com shared the clip on their Twitter account.
They tweeted, “Sam Hughes says her boyfriend bet $1,000 on her to win and she wants “all of it””
One fan felt sad for the UFC fighter, as she seemed to not know what she was doing.
Brooooo I feel bad she clearly doesn’t even know that’s not allowed. Could be the end of her UFC career

However, a fan thought she is going to get away with it as it is only a small amount.
It's $1,000 I guarantee no one is going to care.
Would be a different story if he bet $500k or $1 mil on her.

Another fan stated that she may land in trouble, as other athletes have in the past.
Nah it’s been banned by the UFC to have anyone related to you/your team bet on you. Amount doesn’t matter. Look up the Calvin Ridley situation in the nfl, dude lost millions over a 1k bet
— MrGoblin (@FrontKickUFC) April 9, 2023
One social media user offered a potential loophole on the subject.
Guess the loophole is never marry your significant other and let them bet for you
