Although the news of his return is a reason for excitement to many, Conor McGregor‘s standoff with USADA is not helping his case. The Irishman is yet to re-enter the USADA testing pool following his recovery from the UFC 264 leg break. During his time in recovery, McGregor put on an impressive amount of muscle, thus inviting steroid accusations. The former double champion’s reluctance to comply with the standard USADA procedure, and the distant possibility of him getting an exemption, is stirring up controversies and unsettling other fighters. The latest name on that list is the #4 ranked lightweight Beneil Dariush.
In a recent interview with the popular MMA media personality ‘The Schmo’, Dariush discussed his upcoming bout with Charles Oliveira. Dariush will face the former champion in May in the co-main event of UFC 288. During the conversation, the 33-year-old also shared the wonderful news about his newborn daughter. However, the 33-year-old shared his frustration with being away from her because of the UFC 288 camp. Furthermore, he answered ‘The Schmo’s questions about the returning Conor McGregor and held nothing back on the USADA controversy.

Conor McGregor is all but confirmed to fight #5 ranked Michael Chandler on his return. The pair recently wrapped filming for season 31 of ‘The Ultimate Fighter.’ With a win, McGregor could directly enter the top 5 rankings of the 155 lbs division. Therefore, Dariush did not mince words when talking about ‘The Notorious’ one’s recent controversy with USADA.
He said, “I think Conor’s cheating. Because the reality is, like, if you wanna, for example, [if] you wanna fix your knee or you wanna fix your leg and you need to get certain, let’s say, what is it? Growth hormones or whatever he’s doing. You can get a therapeutic exemption. You can speak to USADA, get a therapeutic exemption.”
He continued, “You can’t add extra stuff. Whatever you’re putting in you have to declare with them and get it figured out. This is B.S. to be honest with you. The fact that they say ‘Oh while he’s doing this he’s not getting tested right now because of his leg.’ No, you can still get tested. You just have to declare and say, ‘hey this is a USADA therapeutic exemption.’ But that’s not the case.”

He further added, “He even put down retirement. So he went into retirement, I guess. So USADA recently said when you come out of retirement you need six months and that two clean tests. This is garbage but you know, that’s the game.”
Thus, there’s a lot of unrest going on around McGregor’s USADA status. Do you agree with Dariush? Are his concerns valid? What do you think McGregor should do regarding the USADA situation?
