Has Conor McGregor lost his edge, or can he still make a comeback in the UFC?

Dustin Poirier has kept a low profile ever since he lost his chance to win the lightweight title at UFC 302 last month. Although it was a losing effort, he took Islam Makhachev to his absolute limit. White the first June PPV went through without many hiccups, UFC 303 saw its headline getting canceled due to Conor McGregor‘s untimely toe injury. As fans anticipate the re-scheduled date of the Michael Chandler fight, Poirier decided to take a dig at ‘The Notorious’.

Fans aren’t strangers to Conor McGregor and the bad blood he has with some of his former rivals. The rivalry he had with Dustin Poirier was one of his most heated rivalries when after losing the trilogy, the former double champion went on a verbal tirade that fans will remember for a long time. Well, whatever was said and done, Dustin Poirier, seizing the opportunity to add to McGregor’s UFC 303’s canceled return woes, made sure to give ‘The Notorious’ a reminder.

“Hey [Conor McGregor] it felt so nice, i did twice ya bumskie,” tweeted Dustin Poirier reminding Conor McGregor who won their trilogy rivalry. This was one of many tweets aimed at the Irishman. ‘The Diamond’ even took jibes at his former rival’s social media antics and mocked him by stating that he shouldn’t have gotten access to the internet.

“They should’ve never give the kid wifi.. Destruction and destroy. Uno mas,” added Dustin Poirier. He even shared an image of a knocked-out Conor McGregor from their second fight at UFC 257. But what does this mean? Is he hinting at being interested in a McGregor fight? It seems unusual because, when a fan asked him about a UFC 302 rematch, he expressed wanting to fight for the title again should the planned bout between Arman Tsarukyan and Islam Makhachev go bust.

“If arman can’t fight let’s go again [Islam Makhachev],” wrote Dustin Poirier in another tweet. It seems like ‘The Diamond’ isn’t quite sure of hanging up his fighting gloves just yet. He could be planting seeds on a final couple of possible routes he can take now during the twilight stages of his career. Meanwhile, Poirier did address a fan’s question after he suggested rekindling his rivalry with Conor McGregor with his recent tweets.

It’s not about the money for ‘The Diamond’ against ‘The Notorious’

Having been unable to capture the undisputed belt for a third time, the only thing fans expect Dustin Poirier to do is seek a big-money fight with some of the notable names in the lightweight division. Now, in the wake of his taking aim at Conor McGregor, one fan replied to one of Poirier’s tweets and concluded that ‘The Diamond’ is indeed looking for a big paycheck as he nears the end of his career. However, that isn’t the real issue.

Dustin Poirier is one of the most popular names to fight under the UFC banner. His businesses and being a veteran in the promotion, among other ventures, have brought him to a great financial position. As such, Poirier isn’t necessarily looking to earn a big payout because it seems like he still has some issues with Conor McGregor and may want to settle things once and for all. “I’m cool I don’t need the cash I just want the blood,” said ‘The Diamond’.
