Conor McGregor’s UFC Return Preparation Met With Khamzat Chimaev’s Brutal Remark as Both Fighters Eye UFC 300

Conor McGregor has received an interesting offer to prepare for his UFC return. The Irish superstar has been hard at work after an extended hiatus from competition since 2021. However, McGregor has been actively sharing glimpses of his training with the fans on social media. And it seems one of his posts has caught the attention of Khamzat Chimaev!

Chimaev, riding the high after his win against Kamaru Usman at UFC 294 commented on a video of McGregor sparring with a training partner. ‘Borz’ left an interesting offer for McGregor in the comments. However, there hasn’t been a response from ‘The Notorious’ so far. Let’s delve further into the saga between the two fighters!

Conor McGregor offered “real sparring” by Khamzat Chimaev

Fans have been eagerly awaiting Conor McGregor’s UFC return. UFC CEO Dana White in a recent interview confirmed that McGregor will be fighting again in 2024. However, there is no concrete date available as of now. But the Irishman has been hard at work in the gym, shoring up his weaknesses and sharpening up his strengths as evidenced by his social media updates.

In a recent post on Instagram, McGregor can be seen sparring with training partner, Bakhromion Baha. The men are engaged in a striking battle where McGregor works to improve his trademark counter-striking game.

The post drew a comment from Khamzat Chimaev, who stated, “If he needs a real sparring, let me know”. His comment indicates that Chimaev is interested in facing McGregor if given the opportunity. 

It remains to be seen if McGregor responds to the offer because Chimaev is now fighting at middleweight and will hold a significant size advantage. Nevertheless, McGregor’s sparring footage might not be proof enough for Michael Chandler, who has recently voiced his frustration with their match-up not yet being confirmed!

McGregor fight delay frustrates Michael Chandler

Michael Chandler began 2023 expecting to face Conor McGregor, but as the year ends, he finds himself with an inactive season, eager for the much-anticipated clash to happen in 2024. In a recent appearance on The MMA Hour, Chandler revealed how he feels about waiting for McGregor.

Acknowledging some frustration and annoyance at the lack of a set date, Chandler stated, “It is hard to have your training, but not have that carrot dangled in front of you and that light at the end of the tunnel of an actual date.”

Originally slated for the second half of 2023 after filming The Ultimate Fighter 31, the McGregor vs. Chandler bout faced delays, with the UFC targeting April 2024 for McGregor’s return after a prolonged hiatus. Chandler, amidst speculations about a potential fight at UFC 300, clarified, “So he’s trying to wait me out, smoke me out, but I’m going to be waiting here, man. The greatest comeback in combat sports history, that road goes through one man — and his name is Michael Chandler.”
