His incredible performance caught the attention of the current lightweight champion, Islam Makhchev and in a recent interview, the Dagestani fighter showed his willingness to fight ‘The Diamond’ next.

The lightweight division is one of the most interesting divisions in the UFC and Islam Makhachev currently sits at its helm. The Dagestani fighter is one of the most dominant champions in the division and his record speaks for himself. Although he has been out of action for quite some time now, the champion has shown his willingness to fight three times this year. However, his recent claim of fighting Dustin Poirier because of a lack of options has stirred the MMA world. Poirier is fresh off a victory at UFC 299 and many believe he deserves a title shot next.

Meanwhile, Conor McGregor’s striking coach shared his opinion on the clash. In a recent video on Instagram uploaded by MMA Uncensored, he said, “It is looking like it’s going to be Islam Makhachev vs Dustin Poirier at the end. You know if Poirier can put his hands on him he can put anybody to sleep. He always has a puncher’s chance. But that wrestling (Makhachev) is no joke.”

Poirier is undoubtedly one of the hardest punchers in the division and his last performance proved the fact. Meanwhile, another conflict has been brewing in the division.

Makhachev is interested in fighting Dustin Poirier next, but that seems to have rubbed Arman Tsarukyan the wrong way. In a recent interview with ‘Morning Kombat’s’ Brian Campbell, the 27-year-old shared his opinion on the probable fight.

Arman Tsarukyan feels Islam Makhachev is scared of him

27-year-old Arman Tsarukyan is just one step away from getting a title shot. The Armenian has put up some stellar performances inside the Octagon and is ready for his battle at UFC 300. A win against Charles Oliveira might just get him closer to a title fight against Islam Makhachev. However, he feels the champion is hesitant to fight him because of his ability. While speaking to Brian Campbell he pointed out the reason as to why Makhachev is interested in fighting ‘The Diamond’.

He said, “I feel like Islam wants to avoid us. He feels like I’m going to win. For him it’s better to fight Poirier than me because I’m more dangerous for him. Maybe he can make more money with Dustin. Probably because of that he’s interested,” He further added, “Anyway for me, doesn’t matter. So I just focus on Charles Oliveira but after that fight, we’re gonna talk.”.
