Conor McGregor’s Brutal 13-Second KO of ‘King of Rio’ Jose Aldo Deciphered Amidst UFC Retirement Rumors

Thanh Le, the featherweight king of ONE Championship, gave his honest opinion about one of the most talked about MMA fights in history- Conor McGregor vs. Jose Aldo in 2015.

The rivalry between McGregor and Aldo is one of the most famous in the history of UFC, which saw the light of the octagon in 2015. The duo were set to meet earlier in the same year. However, Aldo pulled out of the bout due to an injury.

In the meantime, ‘The Notorious’ gained the interim featherweight belt and later unified it at UFC 194. McGregor used heavy trash talk to play with the Brazilian’s mind in the lead-up to the fight. Eventually, McGregor’s mind game took a toll on Aldo. Later in the fight, the Irish star defeated the then champion, who looked invincible before, in just 13seconds of the first round.

According to Thanh Le, it was Aldo’s desire to ‘Kill’ McGregor after the heavy talk became the reason for his defeat. Le, who is preparing for his title defense at ONE 160 on August 26, faced similar treatment from his opponent. However, he didn’t let it get on his mind.

“No matter if he talked s*** or said nothing. The fact is, he’s a dangerous fighter that’s going to give everything he has to take this belt. When you allow trash talk to affect you, that’s when a McGregor-Aldo situation happens. He wanted to kill McGregor so bad, he threw all caution to the wind and we saw what happened,” Le said in an interview.

Jose Aldo: in the UFC now and retirement rumors

Following his loss against ‘The Notorious,’ Aldo had a lot of ups and downs in his career. A few years later, he went down to the bantamweight division. However, he only found defeat until December 2020.

Near the end of 2020, fans saw the former champion returned to his winning ways. He won two more fights in the next year. He was on a three-fight win streak. But faced another defeat.

Aldo recently fought the Georgian fighter Merab Dvalishvili at UFC 278 last weekend. However, despite a good performance, the Brazilian failed to get a nod from the judges and suffered a defeat.

Following the results, Aldo sat down with Dvalishvili inside the cage and exchanged a few words. Later, the Georgian stated that Aldo told him that this was his last fight, and he was retiring from the sport.

However, there was no official announcement of that decision. Neither did Aldo talk about his retirement or lay his gloves on the mat after the fight. Therefore, the news is still a rumor.
