UFC star Conor McGregor recently informed the MMA world of his training camp set up at Big Bear ahead of his much-anticipated upcoming fight against Michael Chandler. While the exact details of the fight are being worked out, the ‘Notorious’ is not overlooking any opportunity. The Irishman, therefore, shifted his base from the old trusted SBG Ireland gym to a different gym in Southern California. While noted personalities availed of the gym facilities in the past, the departure from his Dublin-based facility also puzzled some. In addition, a few questions were raised about the former UFC champion’s relationship with famed coach John Kavanagh. The UFC veteran, Chael Sonnen, voiced the same issues as he spoke his mind on his latest move.

Notably, the 45-year-old expressed the complexities attached to shifting the training base to an alien city that developed as a norm in the past few years. Further, in his latest segment of Beyond The Fight, he mentioned the issues that might pop up as a result.

The submission grappler started the conversation as he pointed out the Irish fighter’s latest tweet as the latter went scorched-Earth on all MMA gyms except SBG Ireland. While he labeled it as a cool move, he unabashedly declared his dislike about the shift of the base.

Following this, he listed the problems attached to it. First, he recalled the history of the American gym. Thus, the former UFC fighter said, “Big Bear s*cks. Just so you understand, Big Bear s*cks so bad, they’ve sold it multiple times.”

Afterward, the former title contender shed the light on the dynamic the ‘Mystic Mac’ shared with his old friend and coach John Kavanagh.

The Oregon native added, “This is very concerning. You got a guy in Ireland [John Kavanagh] who’s the face of a gym.”

“And he’s got a great gym. He’s got a great system. And he left. You don’t leave when things are going well. You leave when you can’t focus and you know it,” the BJJ ace later on included.

Lastly, the MMA fighter-turned-analyst specified the mental aspect along with physical training. Thus, he summed up, “You pack up, and you go somewhere. You bring the same people, but you go to a different location. That’s a mental drill. It takes discipline.”

Personalities like Mike Tyson, Oscar De La Hoya, and Gennady Golovkin are some of those who honed their skills before their fights at the venue. However, as the former ESPN analyst disclosed, the gym presently lacked the presence of the winners, unlike in the past.
