Conor McGregor is not leaving a single stone unturned. He is not only coming back to fight after three years in UFC 303, but he also starred in Road House and now ‘The Notorious’, which has a new business venture. The 35-year-old has devised a plan to open a hotel. He already has his whiskey brand, Proper Number Twelve, and owns two pubs in Ireland. The two-division champ is planning to turn one of his pubs into a 4-story hotel.
However, there was a setback to his recent plans because Fingal County Council refused the plans from the MMA artist for a boutique-style hotel near the seaside in Dublin. The planning permission has been refused by the council after a huge array of local opposition against the creation of the 35-bedroom hotel. McGregor was quick to reply to this on his X account in a now-deleted tweet.

The Council did not permit the establishment of the $2.4 million venture hotel after locals opposed it because they had concerns that it might be an “Ibiza-party” venue to replace The Waterside Bar. The plan was to build a 5-story and a partial 4-story building with an open terrace. This permission has been denied, and McGregor is not happy.
He went on to X and wrote a post about the same. In a now-deleted tweet, he wrote, “That shanty tent town will slot in here nicely now. Clear the tents off the street in town. They are all infested and need reallocation.” The plan was to include a pub as well as a restaurant in the boutique hotel, and the bedrooms along with the pub would be on the second to fourth floors.

There would also be a 122-square-meter terrace area. The Council refused permission on two aspects: first, the interference with the landscape, and second, the adverse effects on the Architectural Conservation Area. McGregor seems dejected because he was already looking forward to the plans. He even discussed it in a Q&A with the fans.
McGregor was waiting for the green light
The UFC star purchased the “Waterside” pub in 2022 because he wanted to invest in real estate. The 35-year-old asked for permission to demolish the building to construct his hotel and pub. He answered questions about it as well in a previous Q&A. He discussed his plans and said, “As soon as planning is agreed upon, I will be in to operate ASAP. High-quality entertainment and service around luxury hotel amenities, magnificent decor, large pub and restaurant, private rooftop bar, out of this world set up, no cost spared, everything is set.”

He also explained that he would just need the “green light” and would work hard to bring the town of Howth to the glory it deserves. His purpose was to usher in new business and employment opportunities for everyone in the area.
However, now there is a setback to the plan. Many locals objected to the idea, and the council laid out roadblocks, like the disparity in the landscape of the area. A woman who is a resident of the area said to the council that she objected “to the unprecedented large roof garden/beer garden.” Do you think his plans for building the hotel will be successful?
