Giga Chikadze returned to action, and what a comeback he had! He ended his 18-month layoff as he faced Alex Caceres at UFC Singapore. The two UFC veterans come into the fight with contrasting fortunes. The high-voltage clash on August 26 at the Singapore Indoor Stadium promised fireworks, high-paced action, and carnage. Therefore, the fans expected nothing but a banger of a fight, and the two featherweights didn’t disappoint. But the result wasn’t without controversy.

‘Ninja’ Giga Chikadze came into the fight on the back of a loss against Calvin Kattar that ended his 7-win streak in the UFC. Moreover, the loss also derailed his title run. Meanwhile, ‘Bruce Leeroy’ Alex Caceres entered the Octagon and eyed building on the momentum he carried after picking up wins in his previous two outings. However, it was Chikadze who prevailed, and now he will rise in the rankings.

Notably, the Georgian fighter won the fight via unanimous decision as he swept the judges’ scorecards and once again resumed his quest for the title shot.

What happened in the fight at UFC Singapore?

Both fighters tried to gauge each other as they unleashed some leg kicks in the initial minutes of the first round. Caceres soon landed a clean, spinning back fist, and Chikadze returned the favor with a high kick. However, Chikadze tried to get the feel of fighting initially and was willing to absorb some blows and catch his opponent lacking on the counter.

In round two, Caceres appeared loose, smiled, and kept Chikadze guessing. On the other hand, Chikadze slowly gained confidence as his blows started to land. Further, his one-two combination and the power behind his punches troubled Caceres. He then tried to build on the momentum, and everything started to fall into place for Chikadze as his heavy blows started to wobble Caceres.

In the final round, Chikadze showed urgency, and his jabs continued to score high on the damage parameter. However, the fight remained closely contested, and it was Chikadze who triumphed. In the post-fight interview with Michael Bisping, recalling his layoff time, he said, “It wasn’t easy.” Soon, he exploded on the mic and suggested fans wait for 16th December. He then called out Yair Rodriguez for the year’s last PPV, which is expected to be headlined by Conor McGregor.
