UFC Superstar Conor McGregor, before commencing his course in Mixed Martial Arts, was an apprentice plumber. ‘The Notorious’ spoke about what motivated him to pursue his passion for MMA as his career. Talking about the same, the former UFC lightweight and UFC featherweight champion called himself the ‘hardest working athlete on this Island.’
Now the world knows Conor McGregor as one of the greatest MMA fighters of all time. The former two-division UFC champion has done it all in the sport and is also credited with making it popular across the world. However, the Irishman had a very humble beginning.
McGregor remembered that after finishing school, he had to pick a trade just like everyone else in Ireland. “There’s no chasing your dreams and doing what you want to do… get a trade or get in and do a job. So, I got the first trade that came my way, which was plumbing. I mean, I spent 18 months doing that and I’m looking around the site. And I’m looking at the fully qualified people you know, bad backs and bad posture,” said McGregor.

‘Notorious’ who grew up in the suburban town of Crumlin in Ireland, realized he needs to go after his dreams. He said, “When I walked out of the job, I left the plumbing. Obviously, me man and I weren’t too happy, you know what I mean so but over time they saw the amount of work I put in almost hardened me. I’m the hardest working athlete on this Island,” added McGregor.

Surprisingly, McGregor, who had always had a passion for being an athlete, earlier was fascinated by football.

In his early days, McGregor started hitting bags at a gym called Crumlin Boxing Club in Dublin. Phil Sutcliffe was the Superstar’s first trainer. Under coach John Kavanagh, McGregor developed his boxing game. McGregor recently returned to the place where it all started from.

The former two-division champion has accomplished what only a few people could achieve in the world of sports. In fact, the superstar is an inspiration for many young athletes, especially for his deadly striking.
‘The Notorious’ is apparently going to make his comeback soon this year. McGregor is eyeing the welterweight division this time. The fans who miss his sight in the octagon will soon feel elated when the superstar steps inside the cage.
