Is McGregor's beef with KSI a sign of desperation or a smart move into influencer boxing?

Conor McGregor may be absent from the Octagon, but he’s certainly not out of the spotlight! The Irishman, known for his sharp tongue and equally dangerous fists, hasn’t fought since his devastating leg injury in 2021. Though his return has been teased more than once, most notably against Michael Chandler this past June, McGregor remains sidelined, with Chandler already scheduled to clash with Charles Oliveira at UFC 309.

But even with the shadow of uncertainty looming over his return, ‘The Notorious’ hasn’t missed a beat in calling people out for a fight. Recently, his attention turned to none other than YouTuber-turned-boxer KSI. But why would the UFC star want to fight KSI? The answer might be the social media star’s latest musical venture!

There’s no denying that Conor McGregor is one of the biggest names in combat sports. In the past, he has been called out by figures in the ‘influencer boxing’ realm like Jake Paul and Tommy Fury.

While he initially was apprehensive about them, earlier this year, he had stated, “KSI has a big name in the U.K., The Pauls? That Tyson fight is just a strange one to me. I hope Tyson takes his nose off. I’m sure at some stage, you know, we’ll go through all of these guys. (Tommy) Fury called me out today. It’s just like another little world, isn’t it? I’m open for it, I’ll never say no.”

Now, during a recent interview with Misfits Boxing, McGregor didn’t shy away from discussing a potential showdown with KSI. When asked if he’d be open to fighting the social media sensation, the Irish MMA icon fired off by stating, “Let’s go! I’ll fight him for that b—–t song he released alone. I’ll fight him for that f—- song alone.”

For those unaware, McGregor was referring to KSI’s latest track, Thick of It, featuring rapper Trippie Redd, a song that’s been relentlessly mocked by fans and critics alike. But the banter is classic McGregor—fiery, brash, and dripping with confidence. While KSI has yet to officially respond, it’ll be interesting to see if this sparks ‘The Notorious’ into the influencer boxing scene in the future.

So, what’s next for Conor McGregor? Could it be a clash with KSI, fueled by a bad song and McGregor’s endless thirst for competition? Or is he still going to pursue the Michael Chandler fight when he finally returns to the Octagon?

McGregor still looking to settle the “beef” with Michael Chandler

Conor McGregor is plotting his long-awaited return to the UFC, and it’s shaping up to be a major event. After more than three years away from the Octagon, the former ‘champ-champ’ has indicated that 2025 might be the year for his comeback. The Irishman had planned to fight Michael Chandler at UFC 303 this past June. However, fate intervened once again when McGregor broke his pinky toe.

Even though Chandler is stepping into another bout, it seems the rivalry is far from over. In a recent interview with The Schmo, McGregor revealed, “We’re looking for the date, I’d like to square it away with Michael Chandler. You know, I’d like to get Chandler in. We’ve had our beef. It’s not settled. He has a match scheduled. I would like to fight before he’s recovered. There’s a few names in the line at the minute. There’s a few names being discussed.”

Even Chandler seems to have not given up on the idea of a clash against the Irishman. Why? In an interview with MMA Junkie Radio, ‘Iron’ confessed, “Conor McGregor is not my next opponent, but I am Conor McGregor’s next opponent.” The tension between these two warriors is palpable, and the unsettled score could make for a thrilling showdown. But the question remains: will 2025 be the year that Conor McGregor finally returns to reclaim his place as the biggest star inside the Octagon? Who will he face upon his return?
