Over the course of his career, Conor McGregor has inspired several fighters. Many of them have tried to imitate his persona, albeit without the Irishman’s success. This is where Ian Garry stands out. The welterweight prospect out of Ireland is a die-hard Conor McGregor fan and does not hide it. He has time and again asserted McGregor’s influence in shaping his career. However, unlike many others, Garry is carving out his own path.

In a recent interview, the 25-year-old opened up about his future goals and the Conor McGregor comparisons. As flattering as the comparisons are, Garry asserted he wanted to be his own man. That will be his mindset as he goes in for his next fight on Saturday at UFC Charlotte.

In a recent interview with TMZ Sports, Ian Garry opened up about how Conor McGregor influenced his fighting career. Once again, ‘The Future’ had no hesitation in giving due credit to ‘The Notorious.’ Speaking of how McGregor would view his growth in the UFC, Garry said, “He should be invested in what I’m doing. I’m here because I was excited by him. I was watching him as a kid.”

He continued, “It’s cool I could imagine being in his position. It would be cool to see the guy that ended up following in his footsteps is doing it in his own way. A lot of people give me sh*t saying I’m trying to be like Conor.”

The former Cage Warriors welterweight champion added, “I’m not trying to be like him but I want to be like him. I’m doing it my way but in a similar type of fashion. For anyone to compare me to Conor is such a massive compliment to me.”
