After almost three years out of the Octagon, Conor McGregor will return to the UFC on June 29. Or so the Irishman announced on New Year’s Eve. Given his unreliability, fans are waiting for the UFC to confirm the date for ‘Mac’s return as well as the weight class in which it would be held.
‘Notorious’ claimed in the announcement video that he and Michael Chandler would fight in the 185-pound middleweight division, 30 pounds heavier than lightweight, where Chandler contests. However, the bombastic Dubliner seems to be going all out in preparation for his return.

Conor McGregor last fought in July 2021, when he snapped his leg in his trilogy fight against Dustin Poirier at UFC 264. He has been out of action recovering from the injury and has also put on some serious weight, which is why he seems to want the fight to be at middleweight.
The whiskey baron was slated to fight Michael Chandler at UFC 296 after their stint as rival head coaches on last year’s season of ‘The Ultimate Fighter’. However, the bout fell through for undisclosed reasons and will take place sometime this year (June 29, if McGregor is to be believed).
In a tweet on his official account, the former two-division champion revealed that he is going all out training for his much-awaited upcoming comeback. “Gym, home, gym, home, gym, home!” ‘Mac’ tweeted.

The Irishman has fought only five times in the last four years, having lost three of those fights. His inactivity, plus his injury, has raised questions about how good the former champion is. However, former two-division champion Henry Cejudo thinks if the fight happens at 185, it would give the Irishman an advantage.

Henry Cejudo said in a recent video posted on his YouTube channel that fighting at middleweight would favor Conor McGregor as he had already stacked up the weight. The Olympic gold medalist felt that this would also give ‘Mac’s famous right hand more power.
“I think it [fighting at 185-pounds] might be an advantage for Conor a little bit, just because he’s already had that weight stacked up, you know… Conor doesn’t have to cut maybe he could just really just focus in on power. I mean, take your chances with that with that infamous right hand,” ‘Triple C’ said.
