What would be your course of action if you had to wait for your opponent for more than a year? Most of the fighters would have ducked their opponent and proceeded further in their career but it’s not the case for Michael Chandler. The Las Vegas, Nevada native has been waiting to fight Conor McGregor for a year now but seems like he had to taste disappointment every time.
Chandler was supposed to lock horns with McGregor at UFC 303 but a pinky toe injury forced ‘Mystic Mac’ to withdraw from the clash leaving Chandler in the ditch. The clash was officially canceled and replaced. McGregor’s return is yet to be announced and Chandler seems to be wanting only him for the fight but wait what if McGregor doesn’t show up? What will ‘Iron’ do then? Well, it appears that a fighter is ready to step up.

Dana White has advised Michael Chandler to not wait for Conor McGregor as waiting is not wise in the MMA business. “I will never recommend waiting. Time is not your friend in this business. You know Michael’s been around for a long time,” said White at the UFC 303 press conference. Despite White’s suggestions, Chandler seems to be waiting for McGregor as his latest escapade with the media indicates that he wants only McGregor.
However, there’s a question that arises here. If not McGregor then whom? Chandler and the UFC have yet to find any better opponent for him but seems like now they have one. Former interim welterweight champion, Colby Covington has agreed to step up to take on Michael Chandler if Conor McGregor doesn’t show up. “I mean, I would love to. It’s an easy fight. You know, the little short pipsqueak is going to get knocked out cold. You know, he’s running his mouth before too, saying, “Oh, I’m moving up to 170. I’d like to fight Colby after I fight Conor,” said Covington.
He further added, “All these little midgets that cut all this weight to get to 155 because they’re scared to fight in a real man’s division at 170. They all run their mouths, but they never come through and back up their words. So, you know, if the UFC approaches me with that fight and they want to do good for Michael because he waited this whole time on Conor just hoping that that was going to happen, then yeah, of course, I would love to step up.”
‘Chaos’ emphasized that he would be stepping up only to save the investors as well as to defeat the lightweights and prove that welterweight is the manly division. Regardless, what would be Chandler’s course of action? Let us find out.

The Nashville, Tennessee resident has also added that he has more options other than Conor McGregor, “Talks are happening between me and the UFC. I mean, we’ve always been focused on Conor. There, obviously, the UFC has a duty to look at other options. There are some great options out there, a lot of options that you guys have all heard. And I love fighting,” said Chandler.
