Dustin Poirier‘s career has seemingly gotten a fresh lease of life after his UFC 299 victory over Benoit Saint-Denis earlier this month. Prior to this win, ‘Diamond’s career had been on a downward slope having lost two of his last three fights, including a devastating head-kick knockout loss to Justin Gaethje in his last outing.

Things have changed drastically for him after his win over the dangerous ‘BSD’, who was the favorite coming into the bout and had the age, size, reach, and athletic advantage over ‘Diamond’. Since then, Poirier has been offered a June title shot by champion Islam Makhachev‘s manager, and now he has another, even more (commercially) lucrative fight on the horizon as he just got called out by the sport’s biggest star.

Conor McGregor wants The Diamond

Conor McGregor last fought three years ago. His last outing, a trilogy fight against Dustin Poirier, ended in disaster. At the end of the first round, the Irishman suffered a horrific leg break and their bout was officially declared a victory for Poirier via doctor’s stoppage.

Their trilogy clash was supposed to put an end to their unfinished business as both men had won one fight each coming into UFC 264. However, the manner in which it ended left a bad taste in everybody’s mouth and left the feud between them unresolved.

The former two-division champion tweeted in favor of Poirier after his UFC 299 victory last week. Poirier, however, was not impressed and told the media that the feud between them would “never” be over. And it seems Conor McGregor agrees and is resolved to end their beef.

In a recent interview with ‘talkSPORT MMA’, McGregor said that he was looking to end the unfinished business between him and Poirier and wanted to fight ‘Diamond’ again. “It’s good to see Poirier get that win the weekend that makes this the quadrilogy and, we’ll say the real trilogy, the finish of it, to put an end to it, that is a huge bout right now. I anticipated the result would go that way and I was happy to see it, and that’s a big one for sure, obviously,” he said. But Poirier is not the only fighter with whom McGregor has unfinished business.

Another fight Conor McGregor is interested in is a trilogy against fan-favorite Nate Diaz, with whom ‘Notorious’ shares one of the most epic rivalries in the sport’s history. In addition, both men have one win apiece in their two previous bouts and the fight would certainly go down very well with fans.

In fact, McGregor had recently floated a possible Diaz trilogy fight on Mexican Independence Day in September this year at the iconic Sphere in Las Vegas. This proposal was quickly shot down by UFC boss Dana White, who said that the Irishman may fight in the fall this year. McGregor was upset at this snub and felt that the promotion should have talked to him first before publicly commenting on it.

“I’ve got the Diaz trilogy, that’s what I had said for the Sphere, you know. There was cold water put on that publicly, off the bat and I wasn’t happy with that. I need discussion or conversation because you know if I lose interest and I’m not getting anything back I just drift off,” McGregor said. What do you think about Conor McGregor’s comments?
