Apart from his big UFC comeback, Conor McGregor has recently been in the news for his involvement with Ireland’s politics. One may even say that his sudden foray into Irish politics is open to perspectives and opinions and most definitely not devoid of controversies.
Given McGregor’s superstar status, and outspoken nature, his recent social media posts have sparked heated debates, leaving many to question, whether he is genuinely making his move into politics or his voice is another flamboyant distraction. Despite his sudden awakening in 2023, he has quite openly flirted with the idea of a potential presidential run. And he has once again called out the Irish populace to follow his suit!

On the 8th of March of this year, a referendum will be sought from Irish citizens on two bills that seek to amend the constitution of Ireland. Ahead of the referendum, several politicians made a case for it and suggested that it was for the betterment of the public at large. However, McGregor did not buy it and took to X writing: “They could easily do this as it stands yet they have never!! The most conniving, lying, divisive group of individuals is what leads the 33rd Dáil Éireann. MARCH 8th VOTE NO/NO!”

From the aforementioned comments, it is safe to say that the Irishman is opposed to the referendum and has previously hinted evidently at influencing future referendums. While many cite him as a true patriot, serving several altruistic endeavors for his homeland, others have raised concerns fearing that his rhetoric can hinder constructive discussions, rather than being a voice of change.

McGregor does more than just complain about the issues in Ireland on X. In the past, he has actively contributed to several causes by providing financial aid and assistance. For instance, he has been the backbone of building over 1000 houses in Ireland for homeless people during a housing crisis.

On X, he proclaimed, “All of which for social housing, despite some reports (not surprised) I recently completed a 21-home housing estate that got families in and housed just before Christmas!
