Alex Pereira saw his momentum get derailed at UFC 313 after losing, dropping his light heavyweight crown to Magomed Ankalaev. While his outing last weekend was uneventful, his ex-fiancee, Merle Christine, decided to rub salt on his wounds by mocking ‘Poatan’ on his defeat, and her statements have gained traction in the MMA community. However, Pereira has found support from fellow UFC fighters, with Conor McGregor being the latest among the bunch.

Conor McGregor has become a fan of Alex Pereira and has showered words of praise for the incredible year he had in 2024. Moreover, the Irishman has even gone on to claim that ‘Poatan’ should be the real pound-for-pound no.1 fighter in the world. So when he came across the distasteful comments from Pereira’s ex-fiance, McGregor couldn’t help but fire some shots at Merle Christine.

“Fugly b*tch wash your box,” Conor McGregor wrote on X after coming across the video that Alex Pereira’s former partner shared following his UFC 313 defeat, keeping his response short and to the point. This is not the first time he’s been vocal on social media, and certainly won’t be the last time ‘The Notorious’ does something like this.

Why did Conor McGregor show solidarity with Alex Pereira? Well, ‘The Notorious’ is coming off the heels of a high-profile civil lawsuit in Dublin Ireland in late 2024 where he claimed his innocence after being accused of a heinous act that allegedly happened in 2018, by a woman named Nikita Hand. To this day, McGregor maintains his innocence despite being found liable by the jury.

While Conor McGregor has extended his support to Alex Pereira with an X post, fellow UFC fighter and former bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling addressed this situation in a YouTube video. Just like ‘The Notorious’, ‘Funk Master’ also didn’t think it was appropriate for Merle Christine to air dirty laundry regarding her issues with the former middleweight and light heavyweight champion. Here’s what Sterling had to say.

Besides Conor McGregor, Aljamain Sterling also defends Alex Pereira

A loss isn’t something fighters like to face inside the Octagon, but making comments about a fighter immediately after his loss is something that Aljamain Sterling doesn’t seem to like too much. That’s exactly what he had to say about Merle Christine’s dig at Alex Pereira, and while he doesn’t have much knowledge about the nature of their relationship and separation, he just doesn’t think that ‘Poatan’s ex’s comments were necessary.

What’s your perspective on:

Is Merle Christine's public jab at Pereira justified, or just a low blow after his defeat?

“One of the things I saw was his, Alex Pereira’s ex-wife making a video like, ‘No more chama.’ I was like, ‘Yo, that’s foul, bro. That is foul,'” Aljamain Sterling stated in his recent YouTube video. “I mean, I don’t know the ins and outs of their relationship, but that’s so, like… I feel like the wrong place. Maybe for her, it’s just a petty wap. I don’t know, but damn, that’s cold-blooded.”

Meanwhile, Alex Pereira hasn’t backed down either, and even he responded to his former partner for her distasteful comments. When he separated from Merle Christine, he mentioned learning about her being married after a year of dating and even getting engaged. As such, Pereira took a shot back at his ex by advising her to forget him so that she didn’t upset her husband. “I think she should stop mentioning my name cause her husband might get jealous, chama,” ‘Poatan’ wrote on social media. Do you think this response was apt?

Well, Merle Christine is in the past for Alex Pereira as he’s focused more on getting that rematch that many believe he deserves. But what do you think? Will the Brazilian star gain his title back and become a 2-time UFC light heavyweight champion? Drop your comments below.
