Oh, Conor McGregor – always the center of attention – why do you show up for all the wrong reasons? The Irishman, known for his endless rants on social media, outdid himself yet again, with a tweet that’s more than just your average trash talk. Surprise, surprise, because this time, he took aim at his arch-rival Khabib Nurmagomedov, and crossed a huge line. This left even the most loyal ‘Conor being Conor’ fans to frown in disgust. And the tweet in question wasn’t just a dig at Khabib’s fighting style or his lack of charisma. Oh no, this time he went for the jugular, dragging the former lightweight champion’s family and culture into the mess.
But what really took things to the next level? It wasn’t the tweet itself, it was the racial slurs ‘The Notorious’ threw in there as if his years of public controversy weren’t enough. So naturally, this set off ex-UFC bantamweight champion, Aljamain Sterling, who, unlike some people, isn’t afraid to call out McGregor for his nonsense. When asked about McGregor’s latest outburst in public forum via a tweet, Sterling didn’t mince words. “No. Some real crazy work there,” he said.
What followed the actual post were some racially charged comments, including a “does Conor McGregor get the N-word pass?” The Irishman hit a new low with the appalling line, “your wife is a towel mate.” The tweet was up for about 15 minutes before McGregor pulled it down, but by that point, the damage was done. And let’s be real, when McGregor does something this outrageous, it’s pretty safe to say that the apology (if there even is one) is just as big of a show (here it was a huge slur-laden paragraph) as the original stunt.

But will McGregor ever face any real consequences for his actions, or is everyone in the community just going to keep turning a blind eye as he rants his way into more trouble? But wait, there’s more. Just when you thought his antics couldn’t get any more ridiculous, let’s welcome Paul Hughes. The PFL rising star recently went full-on ‘Dagestan fanboy’ when he expressed admiration for Khabib and the rest of the Dagestani fighters. And McGregor? Well, let’s just say he was not sipping on his former whiskey.

Did Paul Hughes new alliance push Conor McGregor over the edge?
Hughes, fresh off a loss to Usman Nurmagomedov in the PFL’s Road to Dubai, put it out clearly. He was done with the Irishman’s vision of loyalty. “I am my own man,” Hughes said, and honestly, that was the moment that broke the camel’s back for McGregor. ‘Big News’ took a clear stance, and the ‘one true Irishman’ wasn’t having it. A fight between Dagestan and Ireland, also known as the battle for McGregor’s loyalty, was about to go down, and McGregor wasn’t going to let a young up-and-comer steal his thunder.
After the PFL event, Hughes took a jab at McGregor, casually saying, “I’m not the other Irish guy.” That must’ve hit McGregor right where it hurts. You just know he must have been fuming behind that little phone screen, typing up his latest rant. So, naturally, The Notorious went all in. Hughes became a “weasel” and a “boot licker” for not following the ‘Irish script’ laid out for him. This was more than just a personal attack, it was McGregor showing that his grip on his inner circle is slipping, and he doesn’t like it one bit. Hughes aligning with Dagestan, Khabib, and the whole gang? That was the final straw.

And it’s not just about rivalry anymore. McGregor’s trash talk has started to blur into something a little darker, a little more racial. So, isn’t UFC President Dana White’s usual line of “Conor being Conor” wearing thin? And how much longer can this be swept under the rug?
Trash talk is part of the game, sure. But there’s a limit, right? Where do we draw the line? It’s no longer just about Khabib or Hughes, it’s about what these words are doing to the sport as a whole. As McGregor’s feud with Khabib continues to bubble, we can’t help but question, if respect is at the heart of MMA, these antics are chipping away at it with every tweet. What do you think?
