Who doesn’t love the classic Conor McGregor back in his heyday as a featherweight contender? The gimmicks that the Irishman pulled back when he was still a young gun paving his way in the sport is something that remains engraved into the minds of MMA fans, young and old. And a good amount of the wit and humor that he displayed is still available for fans to revisit every now and then on YouTube and other social media platforms.
But every once in a while, a rare clip of the Irishman crops up on the internet, serving as a throwback to the good old days of his unhinged trash-talking. One such resurfaced video has been all the buzz around the MMA community recently. In what looked like an interview before his fight against Dustin Poirier at UFC 178, ‘The Notorious’ was seen shutting down another former double champ in a hilarious manner.

In the brief clip, which has now been shared by almost every MMA fan page, former double champ Daniel Cormier gets a brutal response after an unsuccessful attempt to poke fun at the Irishman. Defending Dustin Poirier after McGregor called the Louisiana-based fighter a hillbilly, DC said, “Conor, you called Dustin a hillbilly. Dustin and I are from the same hometown. Does that make me a hillbilly? Conor, listen before you answer this. You remember how much bigger I am than you.”
And not surprisingly, the Irishman shut down that harmless banter with a witty line of his own.

“You’re a ghetto hillbilly, I call you,” answered McGregor, as everyone present in the newsroom responded in laughter. Well, who would have the wit to come up with something like that apart from ‘The Notorious’?
McGregor went on to KO Dustin Poirier in UFC 178
DC’s remarks about McGregor calling Poirier a “hillbilly” came owing to the Irishman’s trash-talking during the lead-up to the fight against Poirier at UFC 178. Now, in what has become one of the classic examples of his pre-fight interviews, McGregor had called the American a “hillbilly”, and “a pea head”, all the while claiming to knock out Poirier in the first round.
Impressively, he did go on to finish ‘The Diamond’ in the first rounds itself. And in doing so, McGregor also made a name for himself as somewhat of a mystic for predicting the exact way his fights would go.
