McGregor was last seen inside the Octagon at UFC 264 against Dustin Poirier. The former two-division champion lost the battle and also suffered a brutal leg injury. Since then the Dubliner has been waiting to return to the Octagon. His recent announcement on, X took the fans by surprise after he chose the International Fight Week for his return. The 35-year-old also picked Michael Chandler as his opponent but in a different weight class at 185-pounds. While many felt that this was just a bluff, Joe Anik has clarified the same.

While speaking to Wright, the lead announcer said: ” Well, it depends what his appetite is for cutting back down to 155 pounds. And if I have any sort of negative thing to say about Conor McGregor’s career, it’s only that he has only one win at 155 pounds in the UFC when he beat Eddie Alvarez for the undisputed UFC lightweight championship. So I have always said that Conor McGregor’s appetite for more MMA scalps, more MMA greatness, more MMA legacy is such that he will come back and get in a regular competition cycle. But i do believe that after he gets through that next fight and idealistically it happens sooner rather than later against Michael Chandler. We are looking at more super fights at 170 pounds and not some sort of a path to the championship. “
