Conor McGregor has not been seen in the Octagon since he broke his leg during a trilogy bout with Dustin Poirier in UFC 264 three years ago. He was booked for a match with Chandler in June 2023 but now it is supposedly not happening anytime soon. While ‘The Notorious’ is promoting  ‘Road House’ at this time, he is still keen on returning to the octagon this year.  However, he is still not back in the arena to fight, and is not getting dates for it either but why is that?

Well, Chael Sonnen knows some inside news about this. Let’s take a look.

Sonnen has been alluding to CEO Dana White who might be responsible for McGregor not getting a date for the fight. As of right now, the former champion is busy with other ventures including his upcoming movie ‘Road House’. Unfortunately, even after that, all is not well with Mac because, in a recent interview, he revealed the impact that the delay has had on his mental health. Meanwhile, Uncle Chael is of the opinion that McGregor might be trying to tell the public something. He said, “Connor’s never been more open with you, he’s entertained you at times for sure. And he’s built and he’s hype and he’s done all of those things but right now, he is leveling with you.”

Sonnen did not sugarcoat anything and declared that McGregor was telling the fans straight up, “They are not booking me for a fight.” According to ‘The American Gangster’, the former lightweight champion was telling this to the world as a signal to the CEO Dana White.

Sonnen also mentioned that this might be a plea to Chandler as well because he cannot directly talk to him, so the media might be the best source to send his message to the concerned individuals. Meanwhile, McGregor, who kept training even as he was recovering from his leg injury has revealed that he had actually lost interest and stopped training for some time.

Conor McGregor reveals why he stopped training

In an interview with Mac Life, he revealed the mental toll the delays took on him. He divulged, “I was hoping for a December date, then a January date, then it keeps getting pushed back, then I lose interest and stop training for a while. Not stop training, I’m always training, but stop full training and (start) drinking a little bit.”

MMA journalist Ariel Helwani also revealed that Conor has two fights left on his current UFC contract and this might also be making things difficult since now he is also a Hollywood star with contracts outside UFC. This comment highlighted the pressure he is under due to White’s pin-drop silence and no concrete planning for his return. However, McGregor is still making the most of his time by promoting his new film.  He said, “So I’m going to go back, regroup, get fully tested, and get ready to rock. The date’s going to come and then I’ll be ready to rock” He also declared his love for UFC and how he never wants to look out for anything else.
