Former UFC double champion, ‘The Notorious’ Conor McGregor is expected to return to the Octagon early next year. However, with father time may not be siding with the 35-year-old, who was blessed with another baby just a few days ago back. McGregor needs to hurry if he wants to make a title run in a division that has rarely seen champions above the age of 35. And with the biggest UFC event just around the corner, there seems to be no better time.

UFC 300 will most likely take place in April 2024. Even though the event is just a few months away, the organizers have not yet announced the card. This is leading to a lot of speculation about which fighters will fight in the milestone event. Fighters such as Conor McGregor, Georges St-Pierre, Ronda Rousey, and even fresh contenders such as Khamzat Chimaev are anticipated to make an appearance on the card, despite some of them being highly unlikely to take place. Like the rest of the UFC fanbase, veterans Daniel Cormier and Ben Askren recently laid out their expectations for UFC 300.

In a recent video on DC’s channel, Daniel Cormier and Ben Askren talked about the potential of Conor McGregor and Michael Chandler headlining the UFC 300 card. Cormier started by stating, “First off, you probably believe Khamzat Chimaev and you do want to see him compete at UFC 300 right? Which I believe will be headlined by Conor McGregor and Michael Chandler.”

‘DC’ then moved on to Chandler’s claims of McGregor attempting to stall him. The ex-heavyweight champion told Askren, “(McGregor) just had a new baby. Michael Chandler put out a statement the other day saying Conor’s trying to stall him out. But he’s going to wait for him.” He explained, “Yeah Mike, of course, you’re gonna wait for him like you’re a very smart man. And if you’re in Mike’s position and you’re nowhere near the championship, you’re waiting for Conor McGregor.”

Cormier also went on to tell Askren how the USADA is no longer a hurdle for McGregor. DC questions why McGregor can’t just fight now, stating, “Conor McGregor is in the USADA testing pool. He has to be in the USADA testing pool. For 6 months. USADA’s gone. Why can’t they just fight? I don’t understand. This makes no sense.”

Daniel Cormier brings a relevant argument to the table about McGregor’s return. Who better to headline the biggest event of the year than the company’s biggest star? If McGregor was to beat Chandler, he might even get a straight title shot. Speaking of which, the champion and his potential challenger were surprisingly under the same roof at a recent event in Dubai.

The IBA Champions’ Night had plenty of big names attending the event. Among those were the likes of Petr Yan, Conor McGregor, and Islam Makhachev. Given McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov’s history, many expected something or the other would happen between Makhachev and McGregor. And they were right.

The Makhachev corner was reportedly heckling McGregor when he had a friendly face-off against Petr Yan. The Irishman hurled back comments stating, “You know me, You know me. I’m ready to go anywhere. Here and now. I’m ready.” Despite McGregor’s clash with Nurmagomedov being almost 5 years ago, the tension between the two teams still remains strong.
