UFC fans were dealt a blow yesterday after CEO Dana White announced Conor McGregor‘s highly anticipated comeback fight is off! An alleged leg injury forced McGregor to withdraw, leaving the June 29th main event in disarray, at least that’s what the MMA pundits and rumors suggest. However, despite both the UFC admin and McGregor confirming an injury, the nature of the injury is yet to be disclosed.

This also throws lightweight contender Michael Chandler‘s future into uncertainty. In its place, a lightweight heavyweight title rematch between Alex Pereira and former champ Jiri Prochazka will take center stage. Whispers abound that McGregor’s pre-fight activities, including parties and other distractions, may have allegedly contributed to his leg injury.

Following the cancellation of his fight with Michael Chandler, a new photo of Conor McGregor has gone viral. Shared by MMA social media account @KNOCKOUTALERTS, the picture shows McGregor with fans, sporting shorts. His leg injury is evidently visible, and he’s also wearing compression socks. The caption speculates that the rumored injury could be a blood clot issue, possibly phlebitis or vein thrombosis.

Moreover, this photo sparked a frenzy on social media, with MMA fans and McGregor supporters offering their well wishes and hoping for his speedy recovery. Others are already clamoring to see him back in the Octagon this year, while some speculate about the grave nature of his “Notorious” injury.

Disappointment filled the comments section of the post. One fan, seemingly putting on his detective hat deduced, “Conor destroyed his left, and his right leg seems injured in this picture.” but his theory was quickly shut down by others claiming the photo was flipped. The left leg injury in question is the one he succumbed to on his last outing against Dustin Poirier at UFC 257: Poirier vs. McGregor- a nasty shin bone fracture that needed surgical intervention.

While many speculated that he might not come back the same, taking cues from the likes of Chris Weidman and Anderson Silva. When these two MMA maestro’s graced back the octagon, the toll their injury had taken on their performances, was quite palpable. Hence, another fan, clearly frustrated by the ongoing injury saga, and the constant comeback discussions commented, ” I honestly don’t care anymore atp, wake me up when he’s at the weigh-ins.”

The commentary wasn’t all doom and gloom, as a hardcore McGregor supporter quickly chimed in with a voice of reason: “Glad he’s not fighting injured, we’ve waited this long already we can wait some more for a proper fight.” Another fan, echoing the sentiment, prioritized McGregor’s health, and commented, “DVT is lethal if not treated properly I guess this makes all the more sense if that’s the reason it got canceled.” This was something McGregor echoed in his own statement on the canceled fight, writing, “…..My fans and opponent deserve me at my best for this fight and we will get there!”

However, not everyone was convinced, as one dissenting voice offered a simpler explanation: “He’s not injured he’s just wearing the socks.” The comment section erupted into a heated debate. A McGregor supporter launched a fiery attack on the haters, calling them “a bunch of keyboard warriors who’ve never set foot in a ring.” He argued that injuries are an unavoidable part of combat sports and that Conor has a history of fighting through them. “This is the first time he’s pulled out,” he emphasized, taking a jab at fighters for supposedly withdrawing over minor injuries.

Another fan, fueled by a conspiracy theory, fired back at the “haters spamming the comments.” He shrugged it off, saying “Y’all could keep coping in the comments injuries happen to cry some more.” Despite the drama, one thing is clear: McGregor’s fanbase remains strong despite his long absence from the Octagon. There’s no word on his return yet, but we’ll keep you posted on any updates.
