The rivalry between Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier dates back to 2014 when the two competed in a featherweight bout. Ever since then, the rivalry has only risen over the years, so much so that both even took nasty digs at each other in several interviews.

In their first clash at UFC 178, the Irishman got through Poirier in the first round of the fight. He defeated ‘The Diamond’ via a knockout. McGregor and Poirier meet each other inside the cage for the second time at UFC 257.

It came as a surprise to the fans, as the rivals didn’t involve much trash talk in the lead-up to the fight. This time Poirier defeated McGregor via a knockout in the second round.

However, it still wasn’t the end of the story. Both the UFC lightweight contender agreed to meet inside the cage for the third time in their career. The UFC scheduled a blockbuster trilogy fight at UFC 264.

In the lead-up, to the blockbuster trilogy fight, both the fighters were involved in a heavy trash talk. McGregor, who is infamous for his mic skills in the promotion, didn’t leave a chance to play with Poirier’s minds.

‘The Notorious’ even involved Poirier’s wife in his trash talk and uploaded a screenshot of her dm request to him on Twitter. However, when asked about the dm in an interview with Nick Walshaw before the fight, McGregor didn’t open up much.

He said, “He has to ask her. I have no clue. We don’t play that game; you know. Another man’s wife.” However, the Irishman lost the trilogy bout via knockout as he suffered a gruesome injury in the first round.

After winning his second match over the Irish star McGregor, Poirier expressed no interest in fighting him for the fourth time. Also, after losing a title fight at UFC 269, ‘The Diamond’ announced he might move up to the welterweight.

Meanwhile, ‘The Notorious’ has fully recovered from the injury he faced at UFC 264. And although he has hinted at a UFC return, he is willing to fight for the welterweight title and not in the lightweight division.

Hence, given the current circumstances, it is highly unlikely that the rivals will collide in the UFC cage for the fourth time. However, nothing can be said in the UFC.
