The rivalry between Dustin Poirier and Conor McGregor is not unknown to UFC fans. ‘The Diamond’ has met the Irish thrice in the past. However, the last of them is the reason for ‘The Notorious’ being out of the Octagon for a while now. Conor McGregor suffered a horrible leg injury, and the fight ended in a Poirier victory. A video has been shared on Twitter that shows the last moments of the Dustin Poirier Vs Conor McGregor fight at UFC 257. This was the second time ‘The Notorious’ was meeting Poirier in the Octagon.

Conor McGregor won the first fight at UFC 178. He knocked out Poirier in the first round. Before the fight, he had claimed that he will knock out Poirier in the very first round. Six years had passed since that fight at UFC 178, and Poirier was determined to avenge his previous loss.

The first round saw both fighters weighing each other’s moves and trading blows. While Conor was fighting in his favored boxing, dominant style, Poirier was mixing things up with the occasional kick to the legs. It somehow looked like Conor was dominating the fight as he was landing some accurate punches and had kept Poirier on his heels.

Dustin Poirier takes away McGregor’s legs

In the second round, McGregor took a strong opening with a spinning kick to the head and well-timed punches. Dustin Poirier, however, kept working at chewing off The Irish fighter’s legs. As Conor’s footwork slowed down, Poirier took charge with venomous punch combos. Conor looked a little rattled when the first couple of punches caught him. Poirier then landed a nasty kick on McGregor’s leg.

Then he circled out and cut Conor off right. Dustin then started raining punches. Conor defended a few bobbing and weaving, but a left-handed punch with accuracy completely threw him off. Dustin Poirier was quick to sniff the opportunity and landed a few clean punches to knock down ‘The Notorious’. 

‘The Diamond’ Poirier has bragging rights

Poirier continued his domination over Conor McGregor at UFC 264. The fight was stopped when Conor McGregor suffered an injury in the first round of the fight. In an Octagon interview, Conor McGregor said that it wasn’t over and fans have been living in anticipation of the next fight since then.

‘The Diamond’ and ‘The Notorious’ have fought hard and will always remain a rivalry that people will talk about.
