Conor McGregor has no option left but to seek help from entities beyond the world of mixed martial arts. After all, he has been left without an opponent, or a date, as Michael Chandler got himself booked against Charles Oliveira at UFC 309. In his desperation, ‘Mystic Mac’ tried to ask Sheikh Turki Alalshikh to help him get a fight at the Ultimate Fighting Championship. Now, the story has witnessed a sequel as the Irish mixed martial artist made yet another move at a possible comeback.
McGregor hasn’t fought anyone since he broke his leg back at UFC 264. With just two fights left on his contract, ‘The Notorious’ planned to return against ‘Iron’. But those plans were destroyed by a broken pinky toe. Now, as things turn unpredictable for the Irishman, he hopes for the Saudi Royal Advisor to intervene and aid him in his UFC journey.

Sheikh Turki Alalshikh, the Chairman of the Saudi Arabian General Entertainment Authority, was in the headlines after the recent Riyadh Season Noche UFC and the Anthony Joshua vs. Daniel Dubois fight. Is he the man to bring back ‘The Notorious?’ Conor McGregor seems to think so.
The former UFC double champion has made yet another move to hint at his future and aimed to get a favor from the Saudi Arabian advisor at the Royal Courts. He took to Instagram and shared a post by Terence ‘Bud’ Crawford on his story. Conor McGregor captioned the IG story, “More Legendary!”
The post by Crawford featured McGregor along with Guy Ritchie, Tyson Fury, Oleksandr Usyk, and Sheikh Turki Alalshikh. The photograph was clicked at Wembley Stadium, as Anthony Joshua took on Daniel Dubois in the ring. It was indeed a pointer about McGregor’s relationship with the Chairman of Saudi Arabian GEA.
Wait, do you know what McGregor previously said regarding Sheikh Turki Alalshikh? Well, during the press conference after BKFC 66, ‘Mystic Mac’ pointed out that he had been tested about 13 times for doping, the most for any fighter under the new DFSI, and yet was left without a date. He said, “Yet, I struggle to get a date, so you know, I’ve talked to Sheikh Turki and said, ‘Sheikh Turki, can you assist me here?’ you know.”

Chael Sonnen was one of the big guns who didn’t buy the story of McGregor’s return. Taking on his talk show, Sonnen said, “Michael Chandler is confident Conor McGregor is gonna return. I’m not! Conor McGregor, the night he was broken in half and had to be carried out of the ring against Dustin Poirier, it was very unlikely that he would return. To make things worse, he sells a whiskey company for an unbelievable sum of money. And he finds himself in the movie business. Anytime you retire, it’s a problem nonetheless. What are you gonna do with your time?”
“The American Gangster’ revealed that the UFC was one of the few organizations that handled everything for the fighters. All the fighters signed under the UFC had to do was show up for their bouts and compete. He continued, “So, make-believe that Conor is going to fight. That’s something that Chandler is clinging to. And I think I can understand that, because he would also like to cling to the idea that he gets what he worked and sacrificed so hard for. But I am not quite so easy to fool.”
After the kind of injury McGregor suffered at UFC 264, the chances of his return were struck down significantly. Even if he does return, things might not work the way the Irishman expects them to. He might have lost his agility, and kicking strength due to the injury. Even the former lightweight contender, Matt Brown, was of a similar opinion when it came to McGregor’s return. Well, that’s what he revealed during an exclusive interview with EssentiallySports’ Andrew Whitelaw.
