Could McGregor's 'pointless' jab at Pereira spark a new rivalry in the combat sports world?

Alex Pereira seems to have taken a liking to visiting different countries and training with their athletes. After sparring with Aussie boxer Demsey McKean, ‘Poatan’ recently landed in South Korea, and clips of him have emerged from a sparring session yet again with another boxer from the Southeast Asia nation. However, Conor McGregor didn’t seem too enthusiastic after learning about Pereira’s whereabouts.

Conor McGregor reacted to a video swirling around the internet of Alex Pereira sparring a pretty good boxer in a Korean gym. The identity of the boxer remains unknown, but he did give the light heavyweight champ a pretty good run for his money. It was pretty much like the way Pereira’s sparring turned out against McKean.

It was just nearly a 40-second clip and we don’t know too much about the session, but the Dubliner didn’t find it logical, as far as his reaction was concerned. “Pointless,” McGregor wrote on X.

This was a total 180-degree switch from how the Irishman used to talk about Alex Pereira because all he had for ‘Poatan’ were pleasant words, just recently, when the 205-pound king demolished Khalil Rountree Jr., McGregor seemed to love that title fight, praising not just the champion, but also the challenger. “That was real fighting in the [UFC] main event last night. Never settle for that other bulls–t,” he had written, once again, on X.

Not only that, but Conor McGregor also spoke about how Alex Pereira can overtake him in one aspect, which is something that he never does. Let’s check that out.

Have an interesting take?

If there’s anybody that’s ever come close to winning three titles in the UFC, it’s Alex Pereira. In a short MMA career of only 12 professional bouts, ‘Poatan’ won the middleweight and the light heavyweight titles in the UFC in just 7 title bouts under the promotion’s banner, and became the fastest person ever to become a double champion. After he expressed his desire to move up to heavyweight following his UFC 307 triumph, Conor McGregor believes that the Brazilian may end up becoming the first one to achieve the fabled goal.

“I think that would be a viable next move for him… I’d like to see him go for it. Someone has to go for the three belts. It’s myself or himself. I’m sure one of us will aspire to it in the future,” Conor McGregor told ‘The Schmo’. And this may not be far away from reality as even the heavyweight kingpin, Jon Jones has put it out in public to fight the Brazilian, instead of battling it out with Tom Aspinall.

So, why did Conor McGregor have to share a cold response to something that appears to be a favorite thing to do for Alex Pereira, spar with random fighters? It remains to be seen if and how Alex Pereira reacts to McGregor’s comments on social media, which isn’t a rare occurrence for the Irishman. Let us know your thoughts in the comments down below.
