Sean O’Malley and Conor McGregor are too similar yet poles apart. While Strickland is often compared to the Notorious for his trash-talking, elite striking, and ability to be one of the most confident fighters entering the octagon, these traits often make people draw comparisons between the two. However, one major difference is obviously their appearance.
O’Malley is known for his quirky fashion and hair that makes him stand out in a crowd, unlike McGregor, who prefers dressing up in a suit and having combed-over hair. So the former bantamweight champion was truly taken by surprise when a lady recently confused him with the former UFC double champion.
Recently, O’Malley uploaded a video on his social media where he revealed how his life has changed by sharing a rather funny incident. While taking a walk, Suga was approached by a woman who wondered if he was Conor McGregor. And being a sucker for comedy, O’Malley actually lied to the woman and pretended that he was. The unknown lady then proceeded to tell him to continue fighting since he was doing great. She even admitted to watching a few fights before leaving.

He said, “A lady just came to me and asked me if I was Conor McGregor. And I said, ‘Hell yeah,’ haha. And she said keep doing what you’re doing. You’re doing a great job. And she’s seen me fight before, and I was like, ‘Thank you so much; it means the world to me.'” Well, it seems like O’Malley and Conor McGregor truly made the woman’s day, as she can claim she met arguably the most famous UFC fighter to ever exist.

On this light note, fans of Sean O’Malley certainly are relieved to see the former bantamweight champion being his former self again. His defeat against Merab Dvalishvili truly ‘humbled’ the UFC fighter, as Dvalishvili had claimed, days before the fight. O’Malley avoided the post-fight interview after the defeat, while his posts on social media truly harbored a different tone.

Sean O’Malley was understandably disappointed with his result at UFC 306. After promising to finish off Merab Dvalishvili in the first round, O’Malley ended up losing via unanimous decision. O’Malley struggled to deal with Dvalishvili’s relentless pressure and takedowns before he was eventually dethroned as champion.
While he didn’t appear at the post-fight press conference, O’Malley posted a brief message on social media to address his loss. “I promised too much and delivered too little. I’m sorry. I love you, guys,” Suga wrote on Twitter. It’s only the second time O’Malley has suffered a loss in his career. Though he’ll likely say it’s the first after an injury led to him ending up on the ground when he fell to Marlon “Chito” Vera in 2020.

Considering the way the fight against Dvalishvili unfolded, O’Malley posted a short video on Instagram wearing a wrestling jersey while showing his stance to fend off a takedown, along with a caption that read “back to work.” So hopefully he would be able to fend off all the tackles of his opponents and gain enough reputation to not be confused as Conor McGregor anymore.
